Brad Pitt, Karl Lagerfield and Shala Monroque were all the buzz at the opening of Art Basel. GofG reported earlier today on the star-studded private dinner held in honor of designer Karl Lagerfeld. It’s funny how people go to the same event and come out with totally different experiences. Nicky Digital went to Art Basel and came out with a totally different experience than me from the looks of it. Like a bathtub of girls? Where was this and why were we not invited?

In case you haven’t yet heard, some of the Guest of a Guest crew went down to Miami this past weekend for Art Basel. One of the highlights of the weekend was Tory Burch’s private dinner party at Fountainebleau which carried over into their new club LIV. The party was packed with celebs, including Beyonce Knowles, Russell Simmons, Paris Hilton (with new BFF Brittany Flickinger!), Venus and Serena WIlliams, Marc Jacobs, Katie Lee Joel, Tom Colicchio, Lenny Kravitz, and Naomi Campbell.

I brought the brightest and funkiest clothes I owned down to Miami this past weekend. And, I quickly discovered, that even the worldly Art Basel festivities were unsafe from the Miami stereotypes. I was by far one of the most conservatively dressed folks running around Washington Avenue. The rules, it seems, are simple: No dress too bright, nor hem too short, and the more glittery charms the better. Take the woman I spotted on the left. I fell in love with the festive culture around me. Some of my other Floridian Fashionistas that I spotted are below:

Art Basel-goers headed to Miami’s Raleigh Hotel Friday night for Tommy Hilfiger and Vanity Fair’s Benefit for Free Arts NYC with an evening of art, music, and champagne toasting American photography. Marc Jacobs, Jeremy Kost, and Ryan Locke checked out large projection displays featuring Free Arts NYC and TH Inside artists while Ally Hilfiger paled around with Esteban Cortazar. Kipton Cronkite and Zev Eisenberg hopped into the star of every party, the Mark Van S. digital photo booth. Andrew Andrew posed the night away for the photogs while Paul Sevigny worked the turn tables and Todd Eberle, Katie Lee Joel, and Vincent de Paul flipped through the newest VF issue featuring cover girl Tina Fey.

Surely no scarfs or mittens were needed in Miami last weekend for all of the Art Basel festivities which included one very special wedding anniversary party for Haley and Jason Binn of publishing power house, Niche Media. While New Yorkers endured the cold, Miami party-goers mingled amongst the palm trees and sand to celebrate the couple’s 5th Anniversary at the Fountainebleau Hotel’s Gordon Steak. Guests included Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen, Carmindy, Melissa Katz, and newly single Ivana Trump who while taking a break from flashing her guns with David Barton, chatted up Kelly Rowland, and Serena Williams.

We are deep in the middle of the Art Basel celebration in Miami and last night Interview Magazine hosted one of the hippest parties yet. The party was to celebrate at the hotel Mondrian. It’s Art Basel time!! And last night’s opening party, thrown by the NY Times T Magazine at The Penthouse at The Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach, brought out the die hard art fans. This year, many predict a dramatic decline in money spent both on the major Art Festival and at it. Art may be the last thing that many would think about buying right now, but that’s not stopping art enthusiasts like the Schnabels, Calvin Klein, Takashi Murakami (who showed up in a festive flower power costume), Stefano Tonchi, Naomi Campbell, Rachel Zoe, and Pharrell Williams among others. Yours truly will be heading down Friday to check out the scene.
