Art director, curator, and Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) founder Shamim Momin (Oprah declares her as one of "10 Women on the Rise") is holding court at "The Island"—an actual islet just a short boat ride away from the Mondrian hotel in Biscayne Bay that she's helped convert into an installation. The conceptual, enigmatic project on the isle features site-specific works by Terence Koh, David Benjamin Sherry, Scott Campbell, Hanna Liden, and Bozidar Brazda, amongst others. More»
I'll sleep when I'm dead! Tonight, Basel is going to be a whirlwind of parties. The virtual who's who of art, fashion, and the international night scene are here to make the rounds in Miami to see and be seen. All in the name of art, of course, ahem.
Well guys, I don't want to make you sad/jealous, but this weekend if you go to any of these events and exhibitions I am telling you about, you won't see me. I'll be taking my talent to South Beach, it's Art Basel and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Even if it does mean next week I will be telling you about my horror TSA pat down situation because I am afraid of those machines. Enough about me, here's the low down on the art scene this week. GofG L.A.'s Art Basel reporter got a pleasant surprise as he boarded his 6am Miami-bound flight out of LAX when he found his seat next to Mark Hunter's. Here's Mark's twitpic of them from first class:

André Balazs and Stuart Parr made a grand arrival to the party in the same speedboat that the celebration was toasting. It was the first US sea launch of the Aquariva by Marc Newson, and the first party to kick off the 2010 Art Basel, Miami. Guests like Larry Gagosian, Jeffrey Dietrich, Jean Pigozzi and others toasted the Aquariva with their Dom Pérignon filled glasses. More»

Art Basel Miami Beach, one of the world's most prestigious art shows, is almost here (Dec 2-5th). But no one said you had to be an art fanatic to head down south this week. Besides the amazing warm weather, the art festival is known for its array of special exhibitions, artistic crossovers and collaborations and of course...the parties. Here's our guide to the week of sun, fun and celebrations. More»

Interactive Public Performance Art: That phrase is enough to strike fear into the hearts of many New Yorkers, but in Miami, Art Basel revelers threw themselves wholeheartedly into "Peace, Dance, Art". What can we say? Things are different there. More»

[Photo by Billy Farrell for PMc]. Sure, Vladislav Doronin is handsome and a billionaire, but did you know he's also HILARIOUS? At least girlfriend Naomi Campbell seems to think so. Then she threw a phone at him. Just kidding. The couple, along with the ever-bloated Val Kilmer, took a break from all the art for Aby Rosen, Peter Brant and Alberto Mugrabi's dinner at the W in South Beach. Make sure to check out our (incredibly thorough) Art Basel party coverage, and check back on Monday for all the weekend's events!
