It's October? When did that happen? I swear I JUST paid September's rent, like, yesterday. Time flies when you're having fun/on a deadline, eh? Well this means that everyone is back in the swing of things, Pacific Standard Time is in full swing and our days are shorter and colder so you can't blow off art for the beach anymore. See you around this weekend, there is some GREAT stuff going on! More»
I know you guys probably assume I survive on only art and creativity, but alas, I need food, shelter and full time employment to support it. This week in said job, I have been super busy! It's great, but it has kept me from really being able to do a full awesome weekly update! So I'm doing something a little different. More»
["The Hockney Swimmer" by Michael Childers via] Fall is coming, school's back in session, and you can't walk down La Cienega without tripping over a new Gallery opening. Here are the shows I'm most looking forward too, along with the ones I'll be checking out that I missed last weekend. L.A.'s looking good, guys. See you at the free Chuck Shaw wine table. More»
The end of the (technical) summer is here. This is good news for me for multiple reasons: my translucent skin, my aversion to shorts, the art world's vacation is finally coming to an end. This doesn't mean that I didn't find some awesome things for you guys, just that in the next couple of weeks everyone will be stepping up their game and it will be on, the beginning of the season. This must be what hunters feel like 2 weeks before deer/duck/bear/buffalo season starts up. Anticipation is in the air! More»
The thing about this weekend? I was going to be productive. However, I just looked at all the stuff going on and there is no way I am staying home. I'm going to be out and about and across town and then back to catch everything I need to see and then on Monday I plan to get home from work, survey the clothes I didn't put away or pictures I didn't hang (I just moved) and say EFF THAT NOISE, it was worth it. Seriously, you will see me out and about. More»
[Erwin Redl installation via] We are now heading toward the middle of August, which means art world vacation is almost over, but not quite. However, if you are like me, you are getting restless of lack of new things to see/do/absorb. Luckily I scoured the town and came up with some good stuff for you this week. See ya around town. More»
[Photo by Billy Budd via] It's been a while, and well... I know I’ve been gone. It isn't because I didn't want to be here, it's because I was frankly so busy (new job, new place, initiating cohabitation, smidge of food poisoning) I was barely a shadow, and shadows can't type or look at art or stuff... or something. What I'm trying to say, is I missed you guys and I missed sharing with you all the awesome art offerings our lovely city has to offer you. So if you will, have me back, I would like to present you with the following: More»
It's MAY! The sun is shining, waves are crashing, I'm bummed because I had to pay rent... again (what's up with that?), and I need to celebrate another week of making it through work and not running away from my responsibilities and posting camp over on the beach. Did you make it through another week too? Congrats! Look how responsible we are! So this weekend, I'll catch you near the water during the day, near the art at night? Sounds like a plan to me! More»
End of April showers, beginning of May flowers... or something. All I know is, it's warm enough to not wear a sweater of any sort and I am excited about that. I am also looking forward to the brief relief of the AC at galleries and museums while I am walking around town cursing at myself for forgetting sunscreen, again. So, here are the rules: Go outside, Wear Sunscreen, See Art, Enjoy yourself. Think you can do that? Good! See you around town then! More»
April is halfway over and spring is timidly threatening to stay permanently. You should encourage spring to stay sprung by going outside and doing new things, like seeing art in venues you may have not gone to before! Or see shows that are inspired by being outside (my plan) and not necessarily be outside unless the thermometer in my the car guarantees me it is over 73 degrees. Don't follow my example kids, I've said it before, I'll say it again. I'm a weather weenie. Enjoy your weekend and I'll see you next week, same time, same place. More»
Hello all! Hope you had a lovely week and are looking forward to the weekend, I know I am, I found some truly awesome stuff to see. It's important, before spring/summer/whatever is fully upon us to go and see some culture before we are completely distracted by pool parties and beach field trips. See you around! More»
