Wow, so it's been a while since we all had an awards show, right? That's just about the only explanation I can muster for the general positivity surrounding the Billboard Music Awards, which folks were pretty jazzed on last night despite the mediocre lineup, meandering pace, and schizophrenic attempt to stay positive despite a raft of tributes to recently deceased musical icons. It's impossible, try as we might, not to view Mike D's amazing Transmission L.A. audio/visual art festival at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA through the prism of last week's tragic loss of Beastie Boy Adam "MCA" Yauch. But, while it's not our place to presume to know MCA's thoughts, we're pretty sure he would have been happy that even as the world was mourning his loss, Transmission was continuing to thrill music-loving audiences with big-name performances like Thursday's show from British garage pioneer DJ Harvey and LCD Soundsystem's James MurphyMore»

After just two years, All Points West--the New York area's only halfway successful attempt at a summer music festival--is in jeopardy: unless things come together quickly, it's unlikely to return at all.
