[DJ Mess Kid runs the party at Southside, Kashmir Snowdon-Jones approves]
There’s a new DJ in town showing up over and over again on our radar. It’s DJ Mess Kid (aka Artem Emelianov) and he’s accumulated quite a following, spinning at places like Southside, 1oak, Beatrice Inn (he was in Rory Guiness’ video), and Submercer. He is has socialites like Kashmir Snowdon-Jones, Alexandra Richard and Jules Kirby as fans, just to name a few, and, with his boyish good looks, is quite popular with all the ladies. Check out his myspace for his next moves. He certaintly is putting the pressure on DJ Nick Cohen. Question: Who’s the better DJ?? Mess Kid or Nick Cohen?

Back in the beginning of OCTOBER (!) Grub Street ran a post anointing Chloe as the new Beatrice Inn, “borrowing” from our piece titled “Where the Cool Kids are” days before. We revisited the issue on January 9th when we sent a photographer into the “Ivy at Chloe” party in a post titled: “Is This REALLY The New Beatrice Inn?“ Which is why, we thought it was pretty funny when today, on DBTH, Scott put up a post titled “Battle Royale: Chloe vs. Beatrice” defending all things Bea. (I saw him there last Friday night on the front couch and, we hear, this is one of the ONLY places he goes these days). The first commenter asks Scott: “Why are you so obsessed with posting about this place?”
Our verdict?

Hipsters in tight jeans? Check. Plaid shirts and neck chains? Check. Sweater vests and Cartigans? Check, Check, Check. There has been considerable buzz around town that Chloe 81 on Ludlow Street is the East side’s answer to Beatrice Inn. We sent JT White to check out the scene at their “Ivy at Chloe” party this Wednesday to get the scoop. From the photos, it looks pretty similar. Then there’s the in-the-know-hipster-social fans of the place including: Timo Weiland, Kristian Laliberte, Sean Patrick Murray, Cayte Grieve, Kelley Hoffman, Richie Adomake, Jules Kirby, Charles Lorum, Lizzie Fortunato, Paul Johnson Calderon, Elliot David, David X Prutting, Abigail Lorick, Amanda Shine, Ari Cohen and others.
So is this the new Beatrice Inn? You be the judge.

“As you can see from the photograph taken in early 2008, smoking has never been allowed at the Beatrice Inn. That’s what “No Smoking” means. For the many nights we have spent there, we never witnessed anyone in violation of these rules, and will personally vouch for the owners and managements vigilant enforcement policies.” [DBTH]
Either Scott’s trying to make a joke (hey at least he’s trying), or he’s engaging in some of the most obtuse fawning we’ve seen since high school…Is this the new price of a nightlife blogger’s entry into Beatrice? For the record: no one has ever walked out of Beatrice after midnight without smelling like an ashtray.

Dear Paul Sevigny: Dude, I know you didn’t want me to write about the Bea- kind of yelled at me the other night after hearing I was going to- but I’ve been going there at least once, twice, four nights a week since it opened. I even had my 40th birthday there! It’s my home away from home, and it’s changed me. I can’t help myself. And if I’m banned, so be it. -George Gurley
Well this is all over Gawker already, and in print. But how could Paul keep George away from Bea? What do you guys think? Will this observer be forever banned from his second home??
