Country Club In Greenwich Says: “Noel Me, No Noels”

While the civil and criminal lawsuits alleging fraud and negligence are starting to trickle in for the Fairfield Greenwich Group (FGG), the legal jury is still out as to how culpable they are in regards to the $7.5 billion dollars the group lost with Bernard Maddoff.  But for FGG co-founder Walter Noel and his jet setting socialite clan of daughters (Marisa Noel Brown, etc.) and son-in-law salesmen (Andres Piedrahita, Philip Toub, etc.), the “social” jury is in, and it is a resounding guilty as charged. In April, many “friends” anonymously took snipes at them in the Vanity Fair article Greenwich Mean Time.  Now the Round Hill Club of Greenwich, CT has asked them not to return (aka revoked their membership).  A tipster notes:

The Round Hill Club recently revoked the Noel family membership.  After all of the heat they have drawn and the publicity nightmare, it looks like they [the club members] have had enough…

Father of Madoff Salesman Andres Piedrahita, Has Checkered Past

[Miami-Dade County Criminal Court Record for Samuel Piedrahita.  Click to enlarge]

Back in February, we did a post on Fairfield Greenwich Group jet-set salesman Andres Piedrahita’s previous investment track record, which was anything but stellar.  Piedrahita is a son-in-law of FGG’s co-founder Walter Noel (and brother-in-law of socialite Marisa Noel Brown), and despite failures in the past was able to fail upward to “success” at FGG selling Bernard Madoff products to investors around the world.

Today we received a comment tip on Piedrahita’s father Samuel’s past criminal record in Miami.

Andres piedrahita’s father Samuel–fled the american justice system. He killed a man in miami driving under the influence of alcohol and fled to colombia.  You can bet that like father like son

Bernie Madoff sent to Jail

“For many years up until my arrest I operated a Ponzi scheme,” Madoff told the court. “When I began I thought it would be over shortly, it became difficult to stop.”

A Not So Noel (Family) Christmas (Card)

[Noel Family Xmas card 2005, Photo via Daily Intel]

No Christmas season is complete without tree lights on Park Avenue, an enormous tree in Rockefeller Center, and of course a Noel Family Christmas card that boasts a tanned extended international family with tons and tons of smallfries.  But this year, although Walter and Monica didn’t opt out of the parties (though not entirely without objections), they did break a multiple decades long tradition of family Christmas cards. It must have seemed only appropriate after Noel’s Fairfield Greenwich Group’s $7.5 billion Madoff losses.   A tipster notes:

We are well into January, and there is no Noel Family Christmas card to speak of.  I have gotten these things from Walter and Monica like clockwork for the past 15 years, often dreading in some ways how they would still look young, skinny, tanned, and act as a foil to my aged self.

A projection of what the 2008 Christmas card may have looked like after the jump…

Marisa Noel Brown Parties In The Face Of Adversity

Everyone knows that a socialite’s best defense is to throw a party.  Times are rough, things are not looking to good? no worries, a good fête can be all you need to turn things around!  At least if you take a page from Marisa Noel Brown’s playbook, who may very well have taken a page from her father Walter Noel’s playbook, namely bouncing back in style post $7.5billion dollar Madoff losses.

The Mustique Connection And The “Lucky” Number 12

The similarities between top Madoff pitchman Walter Noel and ever-smiling socialite pitchman Arpad “Arki” Busson are interesting to say the least.  While Noel’s Fairfield Greenwich Group was highly vaunted as the main entry point into the Madoff fund, it’s beginning to look as if Busson’s EIM asset management fund may have been a quasi European equivalent.  With already confirmed losses of $500million+, a tipster indicates that the losses could be in fact much greater when it’s all said and done:

Busson has only declared about $500 million US/£230 million (5% of their portfolio), but its unclear how much he really lost.  Remember he is Swiss-based, and different regulatory laws could allow him to be much less forthcoming right now, giving him some breathing room to scramble to try and make back the gap so that investors don’t go batshit.

So what exactly do the Noels and Busson have in common?  More »

Weekend At Bernie’s Sure To Break Box Office Records

[Bernie Madoff being held up by hanging out with  top salesmen friends Robert Jaffe and Walter Noel]

“He may be dead…but he’s the life of the party!” so says the trailer of the latest tragicomedy Weekend at Bernie’s starring Bernie Madoff and his  social salesmen social buddies  Walter Noel and Robert Jaffe.  It’s a touching story of friends whose loyalty and devotion to each other ultimately lands the trio in a heap of trouble.

Twenty years ago Bernie had an idea to throw a ponzi scheme party and he summoned Noel and Jaffe to create the ultimate investor list guest list.  Over two decades they wrangled people through the exclusive velvet rope that guarded Madoff’s threshold.  With a 2 and 20% $20 cover charge, the three lived like kings.  But what started out as a good time soon spiraled out of control.  More »

Leave The Noel Sisters Alone!

No that is not Chris Crocker’s Britney Spears-inspired shrill. It’s me, and I really think people need to lay off these girls. As you are most likely aware at this point, the “Fabulous” Noel sisters, having danced in the social spotlight for the last several years, were thrown into the national spotlight when their father, Walter Noel, and his company Fairfield Greenwich Group (FGG) sent over 7 billion dollars to money heaven via its investment in Bernard Madoff. Making matters worse, four of the five sisters husbands worked at FGG and the family’s recent success was chronicled in several glossy publications over the last few years.
