Pssst, there’s a new hidden bar on the LES. No, no one knows where it is. Yeah, it was a taco stand or brothel or fallout shelter or something. To get in, you descend the stairs, cartwheel through the kitchen, dry hump the busboy and…zzzzzzzzzzz. Breaking news: the Eighteenth Amendment was repealed. But we’d welcome a prohibition on New York’s speakeasy revival. More»
Anthony Martignetti Steals Amy Sacco’s Doorman, Broome St. Welcomes Chelsea’s Famous “Disco”
[Disco mans the door at Bungalow 8] Last fall, when Southside first opened, we wondered if Anthony Martignetti’s newest role was channeling Amy Sacco. After giving the basement of his Center and Broome St. “Bar Martignetti’s” from “Bellas” into “Southside” we noticed quite a few similarities from another hotspot…Bungalow 8.First Anthony swiped Amy’s palm trees and black tiles. Now he’s stealing her doorman, Disco. Sacco’s Bungalow 8, rumored to be closed last week but actually just renovating, has lent its imposing gatekeeper to Martignetti’s Harvard-friendly SoHo lounge.

[The Guest of a Guest Holiday '08 Party at Bungalow 8]
Update: It Ain’t So. Phew! Say it ‘aint so! Today, CityFile reports that Bungalow 8, the nightclub that opened in 2001 and was the inspiration for this very site, was laid to rest last week. While nothing is official yet, (the last we heard, Amy Sacco resigned a 15 year lease in ‘07) the club, and the street it started, have been dead for quite some time. In it’s honor, we decided to take a look back on some of our favorite Bungalow memories…. More»
We asked, and over 500 of you answered! Noah Tepperberg’s Avenue, a seemly reincarnation of Bungalow 8 was leading for most of the past week, however, The Boom Boom Room managed to squeeze out the win the last several days. While the Jane Hotel is a close 3rd, the recent residential uproar might make its a non-player this fall as the end seems nigh for Miss Jane.

In case you care, Lindsay Lohan is in town, and she’s making NYC paparazzi work for their money, one difficult photo at a time. After a weekend out east partying, she hit up a movie premiere and Bungalow 8 on Monday night, and, according to her tweets, 1Oak last night. If it ‘aint broke don’t fix it?’ Apparently. But we think Lindsay needs to mix up her routine a bit…. More»
Sex, drugs, and a little bit of rock and roll always have the making for good reality TV. And as one would guess, club dominatrix Amy Sacco is apparently working on a Bravo series that will chronicle among other things the opening of a new yet to be named club in New York. This apparent club’s location is also yet to be named. So where will it be? Will it saddle up to the new emerging corner of 17th and 10th that is home to Avenue and 1 Oak? We will be keeping our ear to the ground for this one. More»

[Todd English and Jon B. Restaurants are the new nightclubs?]
The closing of Home and GuestHouse last week looked to be the coup de grâce for club alley on 27th street that has over the past 3 years devolved into a Coney Island of NYC Nightlife. Bungalow 8, Marquee, and Cain defined the best of the best four years ago, but the spot jumped the shark when famed B-list promoter Jon B appeared on the scene, milking the proverbial teet of a low watt crowd for all of their worth. Wikipedia has gotten some heat lately for publishing the “answers” to the Rorschach blot test, which psychiatrists have been administering to patients for over 90 years. Bad news for analysts, great news for us! After reading the Wikipedia page, we at Guest of a Guest feel fairly confident we can accurately analyze your social life, thus saving you thousands of dollars a year in therapy!

[Doormen Maurizio Ferrigno, Armin Amiri, and Wass Stevens all star in The Wrestler]
We can’t help but find Mickey Rourke lovable. Maybe its because he was such a misfit in the past, or because he still loves to rip it up on the town at 1 Oak and Cipriani Sundays, or perhaps it’s that he has risen from the ashes like a Phoenix. Or maybe it’s because he hooked up his nightlife friends (and NYC resident doormen) with parts in The Wrestler. This isn’t to say these guys wouldn’t have made it on their talent, but it sure doesn’t hurt to get a good referral from Mickey (and he has certainly logged in his time with these guys over the years!)
A quick recap on the doormen, the clubs they work at, and the parts they played: More»
