Dogs and cats filled Schubert Alley on Saturday as stage stars, including the ever sexy Angela Lansbury, Allison Janney, David Hyde Pierce, Mary Tyler Moore, Bernadette Peters, and Ugly Betty’s Michael Urie and Becki Newton presented the pets from local shelters for adoption. Meisel Gallery, where they gathered along with some furry friends to support TAILS (Towards Animals In Loving Spaces). The celebration helped raise money for a subway advertising campaign to promote the first New York Week for the Animals, which will take place from October 10-18th of this year. Guests played with adorable dogs and cats available for adoption through Animal Haven while promoting a move toward making New York a “no-kill” city.

The world’s spotlight shined on Vienna, Austria Saturday as celebrities and politicians — an always scandalous pairing — put on their quirkiest, wildest, and kinkiest costumes for the Life Ball 2009 at Vienna City Hall. The annual bash is in its 17th year, and draws thousands of guests including former president Bill Clinton, Eva Longoria Parker, Patricia Field, Lydia Hearst, Pamela Anderson, and Katy Perry who performed in a mermaid get-up.

April showers bring May flowers, and the flowers were in full bloom last Thursday at the Edison Ballroom for Village Care of New York’s 8th Annual “Tulips & Pansies - A Headdress Affair”. The floral headdress show (all of the pieces were made from real plants and flowers) gave designers like Tory Burch, Alvin Valley, Thierry Mugler, Pamella Roland, Chado Ralph Rucci, Cynthia Steffe, and others the chance to join forces with floral artists, resulting in magnificent — and fashionable — works of art. Some of New York’s newest bands rocked Brooklyn’s The Bell House last Wednesday as part of Rock4Rorz, a benefit concert for Rory O’Sullivan, a young filmmaker diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Boondock Saint Norman Reedus and a slew of musicians, including White Williams, Acrylics, Golden Triangle, The Fugs, and DJs Ben Brunnerner and Alex Dirttt donated their time and talent to raise awareness for brain cancer, a disease affecting adults between the ages 20 and 39.
