Noise complaints. Smoking violations. Drug raids. Illegal dancing. As soon as a New York nightclub generates buzz these days, the fuzz isn’t far behind. So if your night out at one of the below hotspots is interrupted by the cops, cantankerous neighbors or the Department of Health, it’s good to have a Plan B in mind with some like-minded alternatives:

If you like the Jane Ballroom, you’ll love the Bowery Ballroom:

The Bowery Ballroom’s crowd might not be as swank as the Jane’s, but its gorgeous interior–including, like the Jane, a swell balcony and giant disco ball– is. The rock-centric music institution has some of the best bookings in town. Also, you can dance inside without worrying about Footloose-style repercussions (seriously, when will NYC’s ludicrous cabaret laws be overturned?) and the Jane’s neighbors who actually started a blog to chronicle their complaints about the endangered venue.

The Fugees’ John Forte received a commutation from President Bush after serving 7 years of a 14 year prison sentence for a first time non-violent drug offense; now he’s volunteering with Music Unites to bring vocal music training to inner-city kids in New York. Last night GQ and Dior Homme hosted dinner guests including Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, Hayden Christiansen, Chace Crawford, Josh Hartnett, Taylor Momsen, Miranda Kerr and Byrdie Bell; gathered at the Cooper Square Hotel penthouse to honor Dior Homme Artistic Director Kris Van Assche, making his first official press appearance in the United States. The dinner was picturesque, to say the very least.

TIFFANY & CO. and InStyle Magazine teamed up on Tuesday to honor Maria Sharapova and Frank Gehry for their athletic prowess at The Cooper Square Hotel in NoHo.  Among the attendees was “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively, who was celebrating her 22nd birthday and was similarly honored with a wedge of chocolate cake.  Also in attendance were InStyle Editor Ariel Foxman, Designer Christian Cota, and Executive Vice President of Tiffany Jon King.  More photos below… More»

This weekend, the Cooper Square Hotel Penthouse was bustling with Carrera Summer Escape craziness. Micah Jesse and Ally Shapiro joined other stay-cationers for morning fitness, sun bathing, spa treatments and special DJ performances; all leading up to a special set by the Ting Tings. Lipps, founder of One Management, who has been tweeting up a storm about the event, was presumably in competition to have the world’s strangest birthday party, and it seems he’s succeeded! Ever heard of Alizé? It’s one of those fancy French liqueurs sometimes mentioned in rap songs, kind of like Hypnotiq. In an effort to raise their brand’s visibility, Alizé is presenting a web-based reality show called Concrete + Cashmere wherein eight hopeful fashion designers compete for a $10,000 prize and a “career polishing package.” Perhaps they mean free lip gloss and heels?
