We give mainstream dubstep a hard time on occasion in these pages, but the reality is, it's not because we don't appreciate the value of having your face mashed in by some insanely deep bass. In fact, if anything, our ambivalence to certain big name DJ's comes more from the knowledge that deep within this beautiful city of ours, there's a long-running night that brings bass the likes of which your typical Hollywood bottle-service crowd has never even dreamed up. Low End Theory, you complete us. More»

We've never made a secret of our abiding love for charity galas and parties for a cause, but even we can admit that some causes are more worthy than others. Sure, that foundation for cross-eyed Golden Retrievers in Santa Monica is making a positive difference or whatever, but there's really no comparison to a organization that helps real human beings in distress, right here in Los Angeles. That's why we're so impressed with the work that Inner-City Arts does providing a safe haven for some of L.A.'s most deserving kids right in the heart of Skid Row, and why we're thrilled that their Summer On 7th annual gala, which went down on Saturday, was a rousing success. We've never made a secret out of our love for charity fundraisers. A party combined with an opportunity to benefit a worthy cause, and maybe even learn something? We're on board. But even we have to admit that not all fundraisers are created equal. That's why we're so excited for Inner-City Arts' annual Summer On 7th event, happening July 21 on their amazing Downtown campus. With top notch food, drink and entertainment to equal Inner-City Arts' extraordinary work with local children, Summer On 7th is a night you won't want to miss, and we've got all the details. More»

Let's face it: any DJ crew can call themselves "World Famous", and it doesn't necessarily mean squat. Just because someone at Bar Marmont let Paz De La Huerta drunkenly control the iPod for a few songs, that doesn't make her a "World Famous" DJ any more than it makes her an icon of responsible life decisions. But then again, if you call yourself "World Famous" and back it up with a 20-year career of absolutely killing it with classic turntable skills, a devotion to real hip-hop, and the respect of a global community, then, yes, you've probably earned the right to call yourself The World Famous Beat Junkies, who celebrated their 20th with a jam session at the Echoplex that brought out hip hop heads and famous faces alike. Common sense would indicate that the best time of the year to live in L.A. would be in the winter, when your friends everywhere else are freezing their tucheses off and the worst you need is a light sweater. But actually, it's just as nice now, when your buddies in Brooklyn are pretending to enjoy 90% humidity and you get to choose from the full range of summer options, from gay waterparks to pool parties. But don't get too tired in all that sun, kiddies: there's so much good live music coming up that you need to save something in the tank for the evenings. So rock out during the day, but when nighttime rolls around, don't forget to Go See A Show! More»
