When I started GofG 3 years ago I had to do so anonymously. I had to sneak photos in at 1Oak and dodge emails from Amy Sacco's supposed Body Guards. It was messy. I mainly did it because, being the competitive person I am, I was incapable of letting this twit over at DBTH.com beat me. (see exibit A and ex.B). I'm not even sure if I knew what we were competing at or for but I knew that getting photos from the Box's opening week were crucial to my score. I had a slew of moles, many also anonymous. It was a fight for who could cover cool. It was the yuppies vs. the hipsters, and many times, I'm not even sure which side we were representing. We were enemies but only in that in order to be an enemy to anyone you must first come from a common thread. Ours? No one wanted us doing what we were doing. Even post my "discovery" I was getting death calls from promoters (I'm not going to name names). God it was exciting. Today, I come across photos from the New Year's Eve party at Le Bain. I found them from a link to the club's Facebook page from their hotel's Tumblr page. So this is what's happening people.... More»

Back in the beginning of OCTOBER (!) Grub Street ran a post anointing Chloe as the new Beatrice Inn, "borrowing" from our piece titled "Where the Cool Kids are" days before.  We revisited the issue on January 9th when we sent a photographer into the "Ivy at Chloe" party in a post titled: "Is This REALLY The New Beatrice Inn?"  Which is why, we thought it was pretty funny when today, on DBTH, Scott put up a post titled "Battle Royale: Chloe vs. Beatrice" defending all things Bea.  (I saw him there last Friday night on the front couch and, we hear, this is one of the ONLY places he goes these days).  The first commenter asks Scott: "Why are you so obsessed with posting about this place?"

Our verdict?

"As you can see from the photograph taken in early 2008, smoking has never been allowed at the Beatrice Inn. That's what "No Smoking" means. For the many nights we have spent there, we never witnessed anyone in violation of these rules, and will personally vouch for the owners and managements vigilant enforcement policies." [DBTH]

Either Scott's trying to make a joke (hey at least he's trying), or he's engaging in some of the most obtuse fawning we've seen since high school...Is this the new price of a nightlife blogger's entry into Beatrice?  For the record: no one has ever walked out of Beatrice after midnight without smelling like an ashtray.

Scott Solish

Even Scott Solish aka Mr. Negativity aka DBTH can brighten up his attitude once in awhile.  What a joy it was to discover these photos of my friend over the internets today. With his bright yellow jacket and pleasant demeanor...oh if only Scott would take me out for drinks again like old times, and let me in on the fun!.  I obviously need help. All of the places we offer up to check out on our island are not cool enough for Scott, and yet he leaves me no suggestions for rebuttal.  Anyway the guy's pretty stylish here don't you think?

Scott SolishOk, well now you do because I pointed it out.  That being said, DBTH has been AWOL, and the web is now starved of his sometimes funny, sometimes wrong, many times misinformed, and generally misguided nightlife ramblings.  And Scott Solish's vague and ambiguous explanation doesn't do much to clarify his absence.

We are experiencing some technical difficulties, hence the reduced postings this week. We believe a Little Birdy has flown directly into the wires, and have sent over a crack team of union labor to fix the problem.

Ok, whatever that means Scott.  Anyway, we hope everything over there works out for you and you come back online soon, if only to humor ourselves.

Yeah, that's right, CAIN 'aint going anywhere.  And how could it?  They are still one of the most profitable clubs in the city. It's amazing how a guy who shills for Cain so much can be, well, so wrong about them closing for good. Unbelievable. Oh wait, we're talking about Down by the Hipster here. Quite believable. This isn't the first time he's been wrong, and believe me it won't be the last.

Down By The HipsterOk DBTH, we get it.  You're a nightlife blogger.  That being said, you prob shouldn't fashion your site after a smoke-filled whiskey-drenched warren.  There"s a reason why there are "ugly lights" at nightclubs.  It's so you don"t see very well.  Well, the same simply doesn't hold true for a blog.  In fact the very opposite is true!  Yes, we may not exactly want to read what you have to say DBTH, but at least we should be able to see what we don"t want to read.

aaron stern

There's a good chance that you have never met Aaron Stern, one of the managing partners over at Radar Entertainment, there's an even better chance that you have not been to one of his uber exclusive parties, though you have probably heard of them.  Aaron is often the man behind the scenes making sure that everyone is happy at the latest and greatest bash going on on the island.  He can be found, Polaroids in tow, hobnobbing among other creative types at places like Beatrice Inn and Antik.  He's even friends with DBTH! (See photo above).  Oh, and I almost forgot, he's a fellow blogger with a photogenic eye.  Take a look.

eldridge cardsThose uber exclusive Eldridge cards are out just in time for fashion week, and DBTH is sad that he didn't get one:( Awww....maybe Scott and Naeem will share? Ha the odds of that are about the same as Sarah Palin finding the father of her 17 year old daughter's baby.

ram island
[Sunrise on Ram Island]

From: hamptons.guestofaguest.com:

Today, our friend DBTH did a cute little fluff post on the Ram's Head Inn titled "The Next Surf Lodge?" Bravo, Scott for stepping outside your island, and props for picking the place that is in the running for the best of the bunch out East. However, I'm not sure why you should be the one posting on this piece of old news. You see, I have CONSISTENTLY invited DBTH out East with me this summer, and, he has sadly refused. Opting instead to stay in his LES dungeon counting his baseball cards and hitting up Antik. Well, this weekend, while DBTH was in Atlantic City balled up in a hotel, I was actually ON Ram Island, enjoying the sunrise. See comparison below:

I may be shilling for Surf Lodge all summer long, but at least I've BEEN there when I post about the place. There's still time! Help me save DBTH's summer before it's too late!

shelter island yacht club
[Shelter Island Yacht Club]

On my way to the Shelter Island Yacht Club, where I would prepare for Round Two in the 505, I got pulled over.  I had no idea I was speeding, nor that the speed limit was 25.  I haven't been pulled over since college, and have to tell you that it felt adequately as painful.  I was in my swimsuit, no liscense and not in my own car.  I have a summons on the 25th....Later on, I heard from some locals at the club that New York Street (the street I was on) is notorious for speed traps. Perfect. Now, not only am I a gas-guzzling SUV driver, I'm a speeder to boot, and I'm willing to take any comments you feel are needed to put me in my place.
