Today, Foursquare, the social media service founded by Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, took over my old stomping grounds-Omaha, NE. They are pretty much taking over the world, with a newsworthy angel roster helping them out, in case you haven’t been paying attention. After the 5th email and tweet asking me to explain just what in the world Foursquare was exactly, I figured it was the appropriate time to do a post. Foursquare is basically your life as a video game. Technically speaking it’s “a service that mixes social, locative and gaming elements to encourage people explore the cities in which they live.” Here’s what you need to know: More»

Dan Maccarone (of Hard Candy Shell) has teamed up with former child actor and bar owner Mason Reese (Paladar) and Iggy Hughes (Iggy’s Karaoke Bar & Grill) and managed to do the unthinkable when in just six weeks they turned the former gay club Boy’s Room into Destination, a wood-and-oak paneled bar that’s sure to become the new media hotspot. And, if anything, this party accomplished the task of getting Nick McGlynn to put his camera down-who knew a pool was all it took?!- hence the lovely Kate Miltner stepping in. Plus, what other party can you think of that gets Caroline McCarthy in a bathing suit, Dennis Crowley in mesh shorts, and Rex Sorgatz fondling blow up balls? Okay, you’re right, it’s a straight SXSW flashback…

What happens when you mix an open bar with hundreds of Tumble-geeks, (and a couple of Tumblettes)? Well, it ‘aint pretty. Last Sunday, Tumblr threw a party in Austin Cedar’s Bar in honor of SXSW and we are still coming off from the buzz. With the favorable guy-to-girl ratio (about 10 to 1), we had more than enough opportunity to mingle with our favorite nerd boys like Tumblr founder David Karp, College Humor’s Ricky Van Veen, Four Square founder Dennis Crowley, and Wine Library TV’s Gary Vaynerchuk (who came with 40 cases of wine-reinforcements).
