The much awaited 9 to 5: The Musical premiered last night here at New York’s Marriott Marquis Theater. Dolly Parton, who starred as Doralee Rhodes in the 1980s obsession, was out in full force and wowing the crowd in a full white get-up. The country legend wrote over 20 new songs for the show that weren’t in the original movie which made the musical even more anticipated by audiences. More»

It has to be difficult to play an iconic role that one actor is widely known for playing. It has to reach a whole new level of difficulty when that actor is sitting right in front of you during auditions through opening night. Megan Hilty was in this very position as she took over the role of Doralee Rhodes that Dolly Parton — who wrote the score for the new musical — made famous. Last night, Jane Fonda and her costars, Colin Hanks and Samantha Mathis, welcomed theatergoers like Renee Zellweger, Dolly Parton, Geoffrey Rush, Rose McGowan, David Hyde Pierce, Eve Ensler, Marcia Gay Harden, and Rosie O’Donnell to the Eugene O’Neill theater for the premiere of 33 Variations, which marks Fonda’s return to Broadway after almost 46 years.  Afterward, they joined guests at Buddakan for a celebration of the play.
