Good news for all of you who didn't score tickets to either of the two back-to-back Coachella Weekends. As of Monday, festival producer Goldenvoice unveiled a jam-packed schedule of shows in the L.A. area and even stretching as far as San Diego, Ventura and Pioneertown featuring many of the Coachella 2013 artists in the days surrounding the desert music festival. Dubbed "Goldenvoice Presents April 2013," the two-week music program gives those opting out of Coachella the chance to see a good number of festival performers in more intimate venues before, in between, and after Coachella Weekends 1 and 2. Let's break down who you'll be able to catch at these local shows if you're not making the voyage to the desert next month or just want a second helping of some of this year's performers.
So, um, we can't exactly claim that we saw this coming, but it looks like we'll be getting Coachella back into our lives a bit sooner than we expected, with a killer mini-lineup led by Pulp, Hot Chip, James Murphy and Sleigh Bells. But before you start booking hotels in Palm Springs, we should probably tell you that it's going to be a little different. Like, "on a cruise boat going from Florida to Jamaica" different. Common sense would indicate that the best time of the year to live in L.A. would be in the winter, when your friends everywhere else are freezing their tucheses off and the worst you need is a light sweater. But actually, it's just as nice now, when your buddies in Brooklyn are pretending to enjoy 90% humidity and you get to choose from the full range of summer options, from gay waterparks to pool parties. But don't get too tired in all that sun, kiddies: there's so much good live music coming up that you need to save something in the tank for the evenings. So rock out during the day, but when nighttime rolls around, don't forget to Go See A Show! More»
Coachella-goers: by now, hopefully, you've got yourself together. You're dressed, ready, you've studied the setlist, maybe you're even at the gates already. But, tragic as it is to admit, you can't be everywhere at once, so you've still got some tough choices to make. Well don't worry, we cover Coachella year-round around these parts, and that means we've already prepared a day-by-day breakdown of our top picks for unmissable shows– some headliners and some more obscure. In a sense, the third and final day of Coachella is the trickiest for both the schedulers and the festival-goers themselves. With two straight days of desert heat, nonstop music, killer parties, and whatever, um, extracurricular activities you may be getting into under the belt, it may feel like a challenge to maintain a third full of day of music. But Goldenvoice isn't exactly going easy on us with the Day 3 lineup this year, having put together a collection of highly energetic, much anticipated acts that will challenge you to get your weight up for one last day and make the most of your time in the desert.
