We don’t pretend to be experts about what constitutes a “most stylish” individual, but we’re pretty sure a coke peddling, cyber-sex loving star of the Real Housewives of NJ isn’t a great representation. But that’s just us. Aaaanyway, Us Weekly gathered their selections to accept the title last night at Avenue, among them some true depictions of the honor. So who made the list? Fashionistas, socials, celebrities, and nightlife staples gathered at the rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel last night. Did you happen to catch the fireworks on the West side of the island last night? They were coming from Hoboken and they were in honor of the W Hotel’s opening of The Chandelier Room. In late August, we started hearing rumors of the TenJune boys looking into buying up the newly “on-the-market” Lotus in meatpacking…Yesterday, the deal was confirmed. Mark Birbaum and Eugene Remm (pictured above), our favorite little birthday buddy duo are taking over Lotus, and thus adding on to their Meatpacking playgrounds collection. David Rabin, and the team behind Lotus, the club that made the area six years ago are officially giving up their reigns and will focus on other projects such as their newly opened Mexican restuarant, Los Dados and the re-opening of their more exlusive joint The Double Seven. We are curious to hear how Richie Rich and Amanda Lepore feel about the change of owners, as they are practically the only ones still throwing parties there. In an article published November 1st this month in AMNY titled “Down Days for NYC Nightlife”, David Rabin made the following statement:

“There are a lot of reasons why the days of Studio 54 and other great clubs of the ’70s are not here anymore, for one thing, crowds have become much more self-separating. When I first started gong out in the late ’70s and early ’80s, everyone was under the same roof. Straight, gay, black, white, male, female, it was awesome.”

Today, money wins out over creativity in every case. I mean this is old, old news. And, in a way, Rabin has himself to partially blame. Lotus was one of the first clubs to offer Bottleservice, which was a huge catalyst in this change from an ecclectic mixed crowd, to models and their banker boyfriends. With the torch being officially handed down to the new kids on the block, this guarantees another season of fresh guidos in meatpacking. Happy spotting.

Line to get inside Pink Elephant, Southampton, Saturday night:

And the winlner for this weekend’s best night spot in the Hamptons goes to Pink Elephant. Even without the redesign new fish hanging from the celing (the work of designer Steve Lewis), without the celebrity girlfriends hanging off of the owner’s arms (Heather Graham has been dating Charles Ferri the co-owner of Star Room since last summer), and without the famous gatekeepers like Rich Thomas at the door, Pink manages to win our vote for best spot and here’s why:

The crowd was the hottest, the music made us want to boogie, and the infamous “scent machine” was in full effect:

Yup…it’s only Wednesday kids, and besides the record setting real estate dealings in Hamptons news today, there is not much going on to help make time go any faster. We still have two more days until our summer officially kicks into gear. In the meantime, we will be reminiscing about summers spent laying on sandy beaches, loster bisque, drinking rosé on yachts in shelter island, and discussing our favorite patterns from Vilebrequin. In addition, we can not bring up “hamptons memories” without mention of the countless nights early mornings spent in the garden of the Old Tavern, the best scene the Hamptons has seen in years. That is why, on this cheery Wednesday afternoon in the city, a rush of excitement came in the form of an invite. invite.jpgWhile we’ve know about the 10th annual Hamptons Magazine Summer Kick-Off going on tonight in Manhattan at The Summer Pavillion on 27th, we hadn’t paid enough attention to the “launch committee” until today. The usual “players” are on it (Jayma Cardos, Eugene Remm, Rich Thomas, Dave Sherman, Remi Laba, Randy Scott, etc.) Those who, come Friday will switch from being comrades working together in an effort to kick off the summer Hamptons theme, to rivals vying for your vote in their competing night life arenas. But, low and behold, right on that list of the Hamptons Launch Committee were the two names we’ve been dying to see: Erikk and Gordon Von Broock. They brought us our Old Tavern back in the summers of yore, and seeing them on our humble little invitation means that maybe there IS some hope.

Will they be able to transform our nights back to the ones in which we come away with stories to brag about and memories that will carry us on through our later years? Is the new stereo crew capable of filling such big shoes? Only time will tell. Until then, we will have our memories, and our new Vilebrequins waiting.

Looks like it’s going to be a sizzling hot summer….

We haven’t completley sussed out the situation yet, and it can be expected to continue to develop over the next couple of weeks, however, it appears that some very interesting nightclub players have teamed up to compete for the polo-jetset Hamptons crowd this summer. These types of match-ups have yet to be seen out in the East End or Manhattan for that matter. The winner of course will get it, and the losers will be left shoving bottles down the throats of the B & T/Staten Island/Queens crowd per usual.

We have yet to confirm if these alliances are the result of internecine feuds, or more of a mergers and acquisitions type of situation, but because of their relative close proximity in location, we can only hope that it doesn’t create a “nightclub cannibalism” whereby the crowds are simply watered down at all places. So let it be a zero-sum game, where winner takes all. Mem day weekend often sets the tone for the rest of the summer, which is why so many of these guys are calling and emailing clients to come out…

Where in the world is Jamie Mulholland? That time of year is FINALLY here… we want to know where the invites for starroom and Stereo are? We will be there every step of the way reporting on who comes out the “winner” of the summer…who has the best crowd both status-wise and looks-wise, where the best decor, music, and food is as well. We are looking forward to the seeing the best of the best at their worst and our official criteria for judging is being refined so stay posted…ruff.
