Fat Tuesday

Yesterday, we compared our own slate of LA Fat Tuesday parties to the madness of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and came to the conclusion that, if we admittedly couldn't rival the bayou for sheer insanity, we were at least committed to having a good time and were trying to stay true to the spirit of the holiday without "L.A.-ifying" the whole thing. Of course, then we saw these photos of the parade and Cordão do Bola Preta in Rio de Janeiro, and we realize yet again that we're not even in the ballpark of how Brazil gets down. Check out these amazing shots and just like us, you're probably going to want to start booking your trip next year right away. More»

I don't think it's unfair to say that L.A. is far, far different from New Orleans. While we're still a relatively young city that celebrates the new, the stylish, and the trendy, N'Awlins is a center of revered traditions and timeless appeal, where customs are passed down through generations, and the city has a soul of its own. But these differing sets of ideals don't conflict as much as you might think once you realize just how much both towns love a great party, and it was in that spirit of festivity that Glow Ultra Lounge, MAX Entertainment and Berry Bly Productions threw down with their Mardi Gras extravaganza on Saturday. I think New Orleans might be proud. More»

Happy Fat Tuesday, kids. If you haven't flashed anyone yet today then you probably haven't started observing this sacred holiday, but you still have plenty of time to make that happen. While Mardi Gras isn't as big a deal here on the west coast as say Bourbon Street, we do know its traditions involve heavy drinking, shiny bead necklaces and girls taking their tops off—in our book, that’s enough reason for a Fat Tuesday themed celebration! Therefore, we’ve put together a list of Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras events in and around the Los Angeles area that will surely add a bit of spice and Creole flair to your evening. As the Cajun French say: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” (Let the good times roll!) More»

Mardi Gras may have just started here in New York, but in New Orleans the party's been going on for days. The main event of the Big Easy's Mardi Gras celebration begins on the Monday morning before the holiday and won't (officially) end until tonight at midnight. For those of us who can't make it down south to take part in the revelry, we'll just have to settle for photos. More»

Happy Fat Tuesday. Women in particular, feel free to celebrate. This year's Mardi Gras happens to also follow on International Women's Day! Eat some pancakes! Plus find out who the happiest man in America is, and why I'm worried for Brian William's daughter, Allison. More»

Fat Tuesday is the only institutionalized day in America that justifies going on food-binges and booze benders. Down South is where the real party is right now, but it'd be a shame not to take advantage of the good excuse to be hungover tomorrow.
