Hollywood invaded the 64th Tony Awards last night, as the majority of winners were the bigger-name movie stars. First-time host Sean Hayes, best known for his role in Will & Grace, opened the show on the piano, welcoming the audience to "the World Cup of show tunes." More»

Every year I read the Tony Awards nominees and pledge to schlep up to the theater district on the regular next year. This year's slate is particularly guilt-inducing as I've seen one of the 28 shows in contention (sup, Hamlet). What can I say? I prefer off-off-off (like Rockaway Beach) Broadway offerings. Last night Lynn Nottage took home yet another honor for her acclaimed "Ruined", at the 2009 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. Other winners included Saidah Arrika Ekulona for Outstanding Lead Actress (Ruined, again), David Cromer for his incredible production of Our Town (which also very deservedly won Outstanding Revival), and Fela! A New Musical won Outstanding Musical. More»
