So Newtown Creek isn't a neighborhood. It can't even claim to belong to one borough, as it forms a border between Brooklyn and Queens. But if recent history is any indication, the area abutting the creek is the next, or current, coolest 'hood in the city. Why? Because it's New York's latest toxic Superfund site. More»
There's a new nightlife option in town for agoraphobic teetotalers. No Lights, No Lycra is a dance party in Brooklyn devoid of sex, drugs and alcohol, though it does allow rock & roll. Intrepid Times reporter Jed Lipinski braved the well-behaved scene. More»
In Margot at the Wedding Nicole Kidman tells her sister not to move to Williamsburg because it's "for the young." After I got my Northside badge at festival HQ on Bedford Avenue I enjoyed gratis Heinekens (ah, the fringe benefits of evil corporate sponsorships), scanned the crowd and realized, with a bit of nausea, that I was, at 26, the oldest person there. The hipster "subculture" is famously fond of thinking of and discussing everything in detached, ironic air quotes. Just skim any Hipster Runoff post for proof. Now, "norm" news agencies have caught on and gone meta by bracketing the word hipster in gratuitous quotation marks. More»
Remember that rush you'd feel when driving with the radio on and you'd hear four, five, holy crap six kickass songs in a row? Thanks to iPods, Clear Channel and niche satellite stations, the spontaneous thrills of FM radio seem close to joining local newspapers and scripted network TV in the media graveyard. Radio will suffer another sad casualty tonight when local dance station Pulse 87 leaves the airways. More»

I have never been to Club Europa in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but clearly, I've been missing out, (and not in the facetious "oooh I'm missing out on the cheesy filth promoter-ed-out club land way per my usual tone). If you're unable to judge that the arrow on the fun-o-meter is pointing to smoking hot from the gents above, take a gander through these delicious photos that follow. Brooklyn's never looked so good...
And, my favorite photo of them all is the first photo just below:

Going to Studio B to eat? That would never cross my mind, the Greenpoint dance haven doesn't scream good old backyard grill-off or, in it's case, rooftop grill-off. As the BBQ started, the sun set right across the veranda, and burgers wafted through the air...how quaint. The burgers were square and came with all the fixins including slaw an onion-pepper saute. Desert was a brownie or cherry cobler with "anis-almond-Crème anglaise."
The desert was hands down the best part, especially when the food more or less ran out about an hour in. As the evening rolled on the bbq became a bar and Daft Punk emerged from the speakers, as it should at Studio B.
