One of the beautiful things about living in Los Angeles is having the option to enjoy live music at world-famous outdoor venues very comfortably well into the fall months. That's why awesome shows are still ongoing at places like the Hollywood Bowl and The Greek. Of course kickass shows are also coming up at local indoor venues, so whether you prefer to experience performances from acts like Grimes, The xx and Florence + The Machine indoors or amongst the elements (which we highly recommend while it's still an option), we bring you our picks for the best live music going down in L.A. this week.
Even though the summer is winding down and the temperatures in Southern California are plummeting back into the high 90s, the live music scene is doing anything but cooling off. The next week promises a dazzling array of concerts around Los Angeles from a wide spectrum of different artists like Animal Collective, Black Star, Dead Kennedys and Ladyhawke to name a few, with something for everyone (except people who don't like music. Weirdos). More»
The Hollywood Bowl, as anyone who's even been could tell you, is a breathtaking venue well suited to almost any kind of experience. Arena-style Coldplay concert spectacle? Absolutely. Orchestral versions of popular cartoon movie themes? Sounds good to us. But one area where we've really never tested the Bowl's versatility is with a night of upbeat, electronic-tinged dance rock. Well, until last weekend, anyway, when Hot Chip and Passion Pit stormed the Bowl to prove that the best grooves don't come from a laptop-toting DJ. More»
Jennifer Garner, Ron Livingston and others hit the red carpet at the El Capitan Theater for The Odd Life Of Timothy Green Hollywood premiere; Johnny Depp joins Aerosmith on stage at the Hollywood Bowl, then helps them celebrate with Jim Carrey, Liv Tyler and Lana Del Rey at a private after part—get the details on Monday night's biggest happenings in this installment of Last Night's Parties. There's no wrong reason or way to go to the Hollywood Bowl, given that it's quite possibly the greatest concert venue in the United States. It's that awesome. But that doesn't mean there aren't some extra amazing, truly unique nights and experiences there that merit special consideration. We think Pixar In Concert, with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra playing memorable musical moments from classic Pixar films set to visually stunning film clips, probably slots into that "special" category. That's why we're pleased to announce the winner of our free ticket giveaway! More»
We think we might have a problem. You see, we're just straight-up addicted to giving away prizes, jewelery, concert tickets, whatever we can get our hands on that will make your summer that much more awesome. Think of us like your over-generous grandparents, except with a way better sense of what you actually like. Today, we're pulling out all the stops to give away two great seats to Pixar In Concert at the Hollywood Bowl this coming Friday, August 3. Don't delay, we're drawing our winner TODAY! More»
Well, with all our big talk about the unstoppable Summer Of Live Music, even we have to admit that as we get into the dog days, things have slowed down a half step. It makes sense, though: a lot of big names are on national or international tours and your favorite bands are playing mega-festivals everywhere from a beach on the Gulf Coast to a field in rural England somewhere. But don't be alarmed; what we're lacking in volume, we're making up for in sheer quality. So just like any other week/weekend, you have no excuse not to get out there and Go See A Show!

We sat down with Anne Pasternak for a few questions about Creative Time's past and future, as well as the importance of having an awareness about public art in the city.
