There are probably some of you out there who feel like it's important to spend Memorial Day weekend in silent reflection over the sacrifices made in the name of American freedom. And we very much respect that, and send our profound thanks to those who serve our country. We also think that the best way to celebrate freedom, once you've given your thanks, is to go out and have a completely awesome time. Luckily for you, there's a bounty of pool parties, music festivals, BBQ's, yacht parties, rooftop ragers, and more this long weekend, right here in L.A.– check it all out in our 2012 Memorial Day Weekend Party Guide! How do internet filmmakers separate themselves from the pack? Seriously, though. In an age where a 15-year old ADHD kid's iMovie tribute to Justin Bieber could potentially get more YouTube hits than Errol Morris, what's the secret to showcasing great new original content? Well, if you're multimedia artist Matt Smiley and you're associated with Thrash Lab, the self-described "ultimate destination for rich visuals, narrative entertainment and high end cultural content," you make a top secret documentary piece about so-hot-right-now band Foster The People and local graffiti mascot Mr. Brainwash and screen it at the brand-new AV Nightclub in Hollywood. Take that, Beliebers. More»

Hollywood nightclubs are a lot like domestic light beers. No, seriously, hear me out: just like the absurd ways that Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Lite try to top each other with bizarre and unnecessary packaging innovations (really? I need blue mountains to tell me when my beer is cold?), clubs will forever be trying to outdo one another with expensive laser displays and complicated bottle service procedure. That's why we're overjoyed that, aside from looking cool as all hell, Lure Hollywood (in the old Cabana Club space) did the one thing that really matters and snagged Grammy nominee Wolfgang Gartner to spin the hell out of their grand opening. Nobody, anywhere, does Cinco de Mayo like L.A. does. Not in Mexico, where it's really not that big of a deal, nor in New York, where you can't get a good burrito to save your life. No, Cinco de Mayo belongs to us, and while that may seem like something to brag about, it's also a big responsibility. See, we don't automatically get to keep the title of Best Cinco City, and that means we all have to do our part by getting extra crazy on Saturday. Luckily, there's a million places throwing a million parties on Saturday, so whether you're motivated by good food, strong drinks, loud music, or some crazy combination therein, we've got just the fiesta for you in our 2012 Cinco de Mayo Party Guide. Between HBO's "Veep" and last weekend's WHCD, the connection between DC and Hollywood continues to ebb and flow. While the White House and Pentagon have shown up in many films, we must not forget that DC has been the location for many movies through the years. For you film buffs out there, here are some filming locales where Tinseltown met the District. More»

A good idea, a lot of hard work, and the right attitude can go an incredibly long way, which is how online vintage retailer Nasty Gal went from a one-person eBay venture to an insanely fast-growing international business with hundreds of thousands of customers in just six years. Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso celebrated the site's recent redesign, launch of the Nasty Gal blog, and general success with a Sky Ferreira-hosted, Breakbot DJ'ed blowout at the Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar last night. Grauman’s Chinese Theatre celebrates its 85th birthday this year and in honor of the occasion, the iconic L.A. landmark will be offering admission for only 25 cents, the same price it fetched on its 1927 opening, on select Mondays beginning April 2nd. On these 25-cent Mondays, Grauman’s and the Chinese 6 Theatres will show classic films premiered at the Hollywood monument over the past eight decades. As a tribute to the birthday of one of L.A.'s greatest icons, we bring you a closer look at Graumans' rise as Hollywood's most famous movie theater and its rich history of milestones and events since 1927, from its first glamorous movie premiere to a recent Spongebob beatdown. Jon Hamm and January Jones attend the much awaited premiere of Mad Men's 5th season at the Arclight; New York comes to L.A. as Kate Spade throws a party for Brad Goreski's new book; Charlize Theron and Katie Holmes celebrate their awesome stylists at Soho House and more! It was another action-packed Wednesday here and we have all the details on the events that went down in Los Angeles and the notables who attended in this installment of Last Night's Parties! More»
These are exciting times for fans of Jon Hamm. As you may already know, there are only so many times per year that he can be released from the hyperbaric chamber that keeps him operating at peak masculinity. Often, you'll catch a peripheral glimpse of straight teeth and immaculately coiffed hair and get all excited, only to turn and realize that it's just Mitt Romney. Now you know how disappointed Republicans feel, all the time! But fortunately with an upcoming new season of "Mad Men," we're experiencing a thrilling run of actual Jon Hamm sightings, like when he stepped out last night with the whole cast for the Season 5 premiere at the ArcLight. There's only really two ways to get many of the biggest names and most well-respected actors on the planet in one room. The first way is to give out golden statues, and we just wrapped that up last week. The second way, on the other hand, is to offer them parts in a project that's too prestigious, well-written or morally important to pass up, and preferably all three. This, it seems, is how half of Hollywood was involved in this weekend's staged reading at the Wilshire Ebell of Academy Award-winning writer Dustin Lance Black's new play "8", which tells the story of the recent appeals court decision declaring gay-marriage ban Proposition 8 to be unconstitutional. Last weekend, the Hollywood & Highland Complex hosted our nation's most overblown, self-serious and utterly silly televised event that doesn't involve grown men with the names "Mitt" and "Newt." Perhaps they felt like they owed us some actual fun, because last night, mega-casino-resort chain Caesar's Entertainment promoted their new Total Rewards program by hosting a series of simultaneous free shows in L.A., NYC, Chicago, and New Orleans. But only ours had multi-platinum superstar and completely crazy person Lil Wayne, so I think it's safe to say we won. More»
