The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) hosted an event on the roof of 230 5th Avenue to raise funds to help ensure fair, accurate and inclusive representation of Gay people in media…and SO… they hired caricature artists, psychics, balloon makers, face painters and go-go waiters.  Ironic?  Maybe, but probably just tragically counter-productive. Yesterday Public Theater opened their newest Shakespeare play, the devilishly gender-swapping Twelfth Night, and hosted an accompanying gala attended by a high-profile crowd. Among the guests in attendance were actor Sam Waterston, comediennes Jane Krakowski and Sandra Bernhard, and, of course, daughter of a former President Chelsea Clinton. Public Theater’s rendition of Twelfth Night stars the lovely Anne Hathaway. Oh, and sorry for all the portrait-oriented photos. As an incentive to click on, we’ll just say that there’s a perfectly adorable landscape picture of Martin Short and Steve Martin jokin’ around below… More»

[Lisa Edelstein, Kristen Johnston. All photos by Neil Rasmus for PMc] Is it fair to assume that a play that won the Pulitzer Prize is probably also a shoo-in for the Off-Broadway Awards? Last night Lynn Nottage took home yet another honor for her acclaimed “Ruined“, at the 2009 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. Other winners included Saidah Arrika Ekulona for Outstanding Lead Actress (Ruined, again), David Cromer for his incredible production of Our Town (which also very deservedly won Outstanding Revival), and Fela! A New Musical won Outstanding Musical. More»

[Arun Nayar and Elizabeth Hurley. All photos by BEN GABBE for PMc] Evelyn Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation held its annual Hot Pink Party benefit last night at the Waldorf Astoria. The evening began with cocktails, followed by dinner, and capped off with a performance by Elton John and Liza Minnelli. There to lend their support of Breast Cancer Research were Elizabeth Hurley, with husband Arun Nayar (despite divorce rumors…), Alan Cumming, Jane Krakowski, Project Runway’s Christian Siriano, Vera Wang, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, and actress Jasika Nicole, who boldly wore yellow. More photos below, but be warned: it’s a whole lot of pink…. More»

After its’ successful off-broadway run, Rock of Ages officially rocked Broadway Tuesday night as it opened to an all-star audience at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre followed by an after party at The Edison Hotel. Ye Waverly InnWe began our night feeding my ongoing musical obsession at the City Center Encore’s production of Damn Yankees. The last City Center Production we went to was last summer’s Gypsy with Patti Lupone. As you may know, the production transferred to Broadway and garnered Tony Awards this year for not only Patti Lupone but also for her co-stars Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti. So we had very high hopes for this production and we weren’t disappointed.

Scott has a theory that it must be in Cheyenne’s contract that he be shirtless in every show that he appears, much like his theory that Sarah Jessica Parker’s contract states that she be referred to as beautiful at least a half dozen times in any screenplay.
