Cities:

Jay-Z

Although every other movie and TV show seems to be set in New York, many of these representations of the city are filmed on Hollywood backlots 3,000 miles away from a decent slice of pizza. But songs about New York are usually written by true blue New Yorkers taking their inspiration from the mean streets. The Huffington Post has kicked off the New York Music Project to identify and map specific locations mentioned in the myriad tunes that pay homage to the City That Never Sleeps. And they need your help. More»

Which (not at all effeminate!) New Yorker is so comfortable with his masculinity that he’d even sing Fergie’s ballad while pumping iron at the gym? Click below to find out… More»

Lebron JamesThe stars were out to see reigning NBA MVP LeBron James lead his Cavaliers to victory over our Knicks 100-91 last Friday. Penny Marshall found her courtside seat early and chatted with Bernie Williams, who would later sing the national anthem. World Series Champ Alex Rodriguez sat next to rapper Jay-Z, and they seemed to enjoy taunting LeBron while he tried to warm up.

When you win in New York, they do it right“, says Yankee right fielder Nick Swisher. They’re certainly doing it right today in Lower Manhattan, where Jay-Z, Yogi Berra, Rudolph Giuliani, David Paterson, and an estimated one million Yankee fans are celebrating the Yankee World Series victory. Tons of parents have taken their kids out of school, workers have called in sick, and students have skipped class in order to attend a once-in-every-ten-years parade.

Fans swarmed to Yankee Stadium last night for the second round of the World Series, hoping for a better outcome than the first disastrous game. Luckily, the yanks came through, and New York won the game 3-1. Was it John Legend singing the National Anthem that made the difference? Jay-Z and Alicia Keys‘ half-time performance? Kate Hudson’s continued support? Lack of rain? Whatever it was, hope they keep it up for game 3!

The man in the background cannot BELIEVE that Jay-Z and Beyonce just left a $500 tip on their $1,200 lunch at Nello’s. We love a good tipper, but we’re wondering just how much food the couple, who were dining alone, managed to eat? Their outrageous bill doesn’t seem to make sense for even Nello’s notoriously expensive restaurant. More»

If Jay-Z throws a party, you know it’s going to be an A-list draw, as was the case for his VMA afterparty at 1Oak. Rihanna, Diddy (or whatever he is calling himself these days), Justin Timberlake, Michelle Trachtenberg, John Stamos and Kim Kardashian easily strolled past that velvet rope; where they drank Ace Of Spades Champagne and celebrated what proved to be quite a show. Already, the stars of The Hills are criticized for not really being famous enough to attend red-carpet events. So how must it feel to be merely THE SISTER of any character on The Hills who is not Lauren Conrad? Probably pretty sucky. But that didn’t stop the Holly Montag and Stephanie Pratt from partying with Jay-Z and Rihanna last night! More»

If you think Fashion Week is creating a madhouse in New York City, than it was only a precursor to what the Big Apple would see once the VMA’s hit up the town last night. The MTV awards ceremony is always known for it’s over-the-top performances but when you have Lady Gaga covered in blood (and lace), Pink swinging from the rafters (literally), Jay-Z and Alicia Keys collaborating, and a Michael Jackson tribute that’ll be one for the history books, there’s a need for all the celebs to hit the town afterwards (and hit the town they certainly did). So which coast has the edge on pool parties? The West coast gets spoiled with summer weather all year, so you’d think they have the genre down. On the other hand, the East coast really packs everything it can into the season of sun. Brief, but aggressive. After a Jay-Z appearance and shows from bands including Girl Talk, we’d say Brooklyn’s JELLY properly represents our hood. There’s the celeb factor, amazing music, hipster summer fashions, and the city skyline. More»
