Did you know that Stuart Weitzman is a competitive ping pong player? According to Derek Blasberg, he practices with a robot. We’re not exactly sure what that means, but last night, the shoe designer/table tennis pro hosted a ping pong tournament at the new SPiN ping pong club, in support of Ovarian Cancer Research. Guests, including Joy Bryant, Kristian Laliberte, Carol Han and Robert Fowler snacked on mini hamburgers, truffled popcorn, and cheesecake balls. More story and photos below. More»

Lorraine Bracco, Joy Bryant and Jane Oster were among those toasting the birthday, as were the venue’s owners, nightlife czars Richie Akiva and Scott Sartiano. A dinner and auction followed speakers’ candid discussion of their involvement with the charity, now crossing into a third decade of helping its South Florida facility patients. More»

Last night, while you were watching Gossip Girl on tv, something a bit more highbrow was happening uptown.  The Metropolitan Opera 2009-2010 Season Opening Night brought the likes of Edward Norton, Martha Stewart, Billy Joel, Karolina Kurkova, Joy Bryant, Diane Von Furstenberg, Julie Macklowe, Jason Wu, and Henry Kissinger out for Puccini’s “Tosca.” Although everything seemed hunky dory from the red carpet, when the opera ended the audience of 3,800 erupted in a loud and sustained boo directed at Swiss director Luc Bondy and his production team for their poor adaptation of the classic piece.

Photos by Patrick McMullan] Alice Temperley debuted her Spring 2010 collection at Milk Studios during fashion week with inspiration drawing from darkly theatrical circus performers from the 1920s and 30s. A few good fashion revelers came to take in Temperley’s designs like Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi, Derek Blasberg, Fabiola Beracasa, The MisShapes’ Leigh Lezark, and beachwear designer Pooneh Mohazzabi. I caught up with model/actress Joy Bryant to get the 411 on Kanye and to find out some ways in which Patrick Swayze inspired her.
