The radical kids came out in full force last night wearing their denim, leather, or no pants at all for a rage of epic proportions presented by Goldenvoice and KXLU at the El Rey Theatre. Amping up the audience on stage were the out-of-control headliners The Black Lips, supported by local loves Beach Party and psychedelic Seattleites known as Night Beats.

The next time you hear some non-Angeleno say L.A. lacks any real culture, ask them if the KROQ Weenie Roast has ever come to wherever they're from or the last time The Weeknd played a show at sunset in a cemetery where famous people like Bugsy Siegel, two of the Ramones, Jayne Mansfield and George Harrison have been laid to rest. It may not feel like L.A.'s five-month-long shorts and sandals pool party season outside yet, but the summer of live music is already going strong with the aforementioned concerts and more, all of which we bring you in this handy guide to L.A.'s top shows to see this week. We've been trying to tell you this for weeks, but the Summer Of Live Music isn't going to be stopping any time soon. Nope, with yet another week of unique shows from big names, old favorites and dynamic new groups, it looks like you're not getting any rest before Labor Day. Yes, I know the nice year-round weather fools you into thinking summer's not special, or that it may be an inconvenience in some way (and you're partially right), but that doesn't change the fact that the best live music—outdoor shows, major tours, kickass festivals—all of this ramps up severely during summertime. So here, then, is the first installment of "Go See A Show!", the GofG guide to the L.A. live music you ought to check out in the next two weeks. More»

Sad that HARD LA got canceled?? Didn't make it to Destructo's "make-up" show at the El Rey on Saturday?? Luckily, for many fans Freak City was able to serve as an alternate venue for getting your HARD on (get it?). More»

Last night, KCRW's third installment of its "Also I Like to Rock" concert series featured bands Fitz & The Tantrums, The Heavy, and a DJ set from KCRW's DJ Garth Trinidad. The crowd danced and sang along as the artists belted it out for everyone at the courtyard of The Hammer Museum. More»

Mos Def really needs no introduction, as he is one of hip-hop's most revered artists, and, without a doubt, a success in transcending definitions of underground and mainstream. The hip-hop hero gave an exclusive performance yesterday for a group of lucky Musicians Institute students who packed the on-campus venue and had no problem showing their appreciation for his words and beats. It was as if KT Tunstall cast a spell over the audience of her Hotel Cafe show last night, with all the room's eyes fixed on the soulful songbird as she performed. The intimate setting of the venue was perfect for the singer-songwriter's style of music, a blend of alternative, pop, and electronic. After Garrison Starr opened, KT took the stage solo, with no band backing More»
