Much like the Olympics and presidential elections, we get this extra day known as Leap Day on the calendar once every fourth year which doesn't really mean much to me but a prolonged February. And although not a festive holiday since it's essentially a day created for calendar maintenance, our culture has deemed it cause for celebration. Far be it for us to deny any excuse to celebrate, so we've gathered the various things happening in and around the greater Los Angeles area in honor of this addition to the calendar for you to join in observing its specialness. If you're one of those lost, Leap Year souls born on February 29th, you've probably been missing out on birthday parties for years. The good news? You get to drink when you're six years old! But that's not all. According to an awful movie starring Amy Adams, Leap Day is the only acceptable time for a woman to propose to a man. And since there are now officially more single men than women in New York City, y'all are running out of excuses.

If it has escaped your attention this morning, today is Friday the 13th. Under normal circumstances, it would be just another Friday the 13th. You might even drive more safely because you're so aware of it.
