Last night, Malcolm Harris (left) unveiled the fruit of his and women all over the world’s labors to the public at the One-Dress Rehearsal held at the beautiful Mal Sirrah showroom in Soho. And what a rewarding night! The One-Dress project, curated by Mal Sirrah’s creative director Malcolm Harris, has already garnered interest from celebrities, including Angelina Jolie. In addition to doing good for your wardrobe, One-Dress has a noble philanthropic side too (how very Angelina of them): A portion of the proceeds from sales of the One-Dress benefit Womankind Worldwide and Kiva.org, charities dedicated to improving the lives of women in developing countries. The dress is available for $225 from the www.one-dress.com.

Collectively designed and created by over 1000 women, the silk-knit jersey dress can be worn by any type of figure in several different ways. It was the hang-up heard all around the world. The story of how designer Malcolm Harris hung up on Angelina Jolie - not once, but TWICE - because he thought she was a prank caller has now been immortalized by the media, having been repeated over and over again by everyone from Page Six to Access Hollywood. At the heart of the media whirlwind, Harris has maintained his cool and dignity. He has also maintained that celebrity status is not what he is seeking. While most would lose their heads and try to exploit the Angelina story for all it was worth, the prominent designer of Mal Sirrah, Inc. and philanthropist has more transcendent goals in mind. Namely, changing the world One-Dress at a time. More»

Last night was the big Pop Up Charity Event “Fashion for Food” at the National Arts Club. Designer Malcolm Harris lead the event which helped the NY Food Bank receive it’s largest grant since 9/11 from the Robin Hood Foundation. Just in time too. The after party, at Citrine, kept all of the fashionable guests warm and merry. I caught up with Malcolm this morning to see how the event went and this is what he had to say:

My friend Malcolm Harris is one of the most talented men I know. Not only is he a well known designer of the line Mal Sirrah, Inc. and member of “Designer’s for Dafur”, he is a modern Renaissance man, connecting people and spreading his contagious energy throughout our city. Case in point: his Fashion for Food event tonight. I sat down with him for dinner at Raoul’s last night and was blown away with what Malcom told me he had accomplished in just two weeks. Because of his work, the NY food bank, in a time where there is a considerable less amount to be given away to charities, received the biggest grant since 9/11 from Robin Hood, the foundation who focuses on poverty issues, and which, at their annual black tie gala this year raised more than (I was there and was in shock with how quickly this process happened during a live auction that I will never forget).
