While the civil and criminal lawsuits alleging fraud and negligence are starting to trickle in for the Fairfield Greenwich Group (FGG), the legal jury is still out as to how culpable they are in regards to the $7.5 billion dollars the group lost with Bernard Maddoff.  But for FGG co-founder Walter Noel and his jet setting socialite clan of daughters (Marisa Noel Brown, etc.) and son-in-law salesmen (Andres Piedrahita, Philip Toub, etc.), the “social” jury is in, and it is a resounding guilty as charged. In April, many “friends” anonymously took snipes at them in the Vanity Fair article Greenwich Mean Time.  Now the Round Hill Club of Greenwich, CT has asked them not to return (aka revoked their membership).  A tipster notes:

The Round Hill Club recently revoked the Noel family membership.  After all of the heat they have drawn and the publicity nightmare, it looks like they [the club members] have had enough…

[Socialite Marisa Noel Brown Demonstrating a "Semi-Russian Front-Split" Photo by PMc]

Every species has it’s own way of making themselves look desirable.  And, while peacocks’ extravagant display of self assertiveness is beautiful, the NYC socialite/microcelebrities may be our favorite of specimens to analyze. Has anyone ever stood in a mirror and mimicked some of the poses that socialites like Tinsley Mortimer and microcelebrities like Julia Allison bestow upon the shutterbugs?  Try it, and then quickly write down all of the feelings that come to you.  A few of them might be, I feel really weird and awkward,” “wouldn’t a casual pose be better?,” “who started this trend?,” but most importantly “what message exactly am I trying to convey with this pose?”

Our “Taxonomization” of Poses below….

Speaking of people spending thousands of dollars on bottles of alcohol, while we are in one of the worst recessions of our time….we just heard word that not only was Marisa Noel Brown, daughter of Walter Noel, caught partying at TWO parties last week, (she was at the Gilt Groupe’s anniversary party and helped host the Junior Collectors night at Doubles), she hosted another grand affair this weekend.   She certainly is partying in the face of adversity, but on Saturday night, she stepped things up a bit….

Everyone knows that a socialite’s best defense is to throw a party.  Times are rough, things are not looking to good? no worries, a good fête can be all you need to turn things around!  At least if you take a page from Marisa Noel Brown’s playbook, who may very well have taken a page from her father Walter Noel’s playbook, namely bouncing back in style post $7.5billion dollar Madoff losses.

When the news broke that Walter Noel of Greenwich was Bernard Madoff’s top salesman, losing some 7.5 Billion dollars of investors money in the now infamous ponzi scheme while his firm earned some $500 million in fees, society writers all over the world began frothing at the mouth.  The story simply has Vanity Fair written all over it. And this is of course no coincidence.  Mother goose Monica Noel has been manufacturing PR for the family for the last 2 decades.  Since starting out with glorious Christmas cards and lesser known glossies, their self-styled Yupi porn reached the pages of Vanity Fair in 2002.

And now a tipster writes that the same hand that feeds is looking, well to be fed.

Graydon Carter is literally licking his chops as if he were about to eat a plate of $65 macaroni and cheese with truffles at the Wavery Inn.  Vanity Fair has effectively given the Noel family an ultimatum.  “Work with us, and you will at least have control over your side of the story.  Don’t and what will be written will be whatever is available in the public domain…:

Walter NoelGenerally speaking, one of the biggest issues for people hit with the recession is recalibrating their spending habits and tightening their belts so-to-speak.  Sure most people’s holdings and 401k’s have plunged, but that’s easy to ignore, just don’t look at it.  But what we are undoubtedly forced to confront is that Prada bag we want and can’t get, or that new flat screen tv, or in some more “social” cases that gala event we want to attend.  Yes, resetting one’s social calendar is in many times necessary, in some just prudent.

Enter Walter Noel, who recently came under fire when his company Fairfield Greenwich Group lost $7.5 billion of his investors money in their faux fund that invested exclusively with Bernard Madoff. It’s unclear yet where Noel stands with respect to repercussions both legally and financially, but socially he seems to be bouncing back at least for the moment.  A tipster writes: More»
