Page Six Magazine ran a piece this Sunday about NYC’s Doorman titled “Barbarians at the Gate.” I gave my two cents on Wass Stevens and the door at Bea. Here’s what they printed:
Wass Stevens, “ageless”
Club: Marquee (289 10th Ave. at 27th St.)
The scene: After five years, Marquee “is the one mega-club that’s lasted,” says Rachelle Hruska, editor of nightlife blog GuestofaGuest.com, adding that much of that success comes down to Wass. “He’s a great New York character and people want to be where he is. He brings style to the scene,” she says of the Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, native, who got his start 24 years ago at legendary club the Palladium.
Deemed at one point “the hottest club in the known universe” by the NY Post, Marquee has defied the odds and made it to its fifth anniversary. That’s five years of bottles (sometimes 20k!), models, celebs, and the largest taxicab gridlock this side of the Mississippi. Embracing the externalities of Chelsea’s nightlife boom (of which they played no small part), their recent advertisement on taxicabs reads “MARQUEE, providing us with the longest cab lines for over 5 years”
The brainchild of Noah Tepperberg and Rich Thomas, Marquee led the wave of nightlife development on 27th street in Chelsea with Bungalow 8 that ushered in neighbors such as Cain, Pink Elephant, Home, and Guest House. Alas, a revolution of brand name clubs were born.
What recession?! An anonymous clubgoer bought this $20k bottle of Armand de Brignac champagne at Marquee last week!! Here is a picture of the bottle; it’s 6 liters and was the first of a limited edition of 30 to be sold in the US. The bottle is so big it’s covering the mysterious moneybags who bought it. So….in case you’re wondering, here’s what $20,000 can buy you outside of Marquee:

The 90’s are the new 80’s, and this week is proving it more than ever. Not only did we get the news that L.A. Gear would be resurrecting this fall, but New Kids On The Block celebrated their album release party last night. And what better way to do so than by being welcomed by the ultimate doorman himself, Wass Stevens, at Marquee nightclub?

[Gossip Girl Premiere party at Marquee. Photos by Billy Farrel for Patrick McMullan]
It’s countdown to Gossip Girl time. The season premiere is this Monday, and it has EVERYONE in a frenzy. New York Magazine hosted a preview party of the premiere episode at, where else?, Marquee, the spot of the infamous episode of Jenny’s misbehavior happened last season (though the show’s Marquee was falsely set in Meatpacking district). We will be right there along with all of you to critique and ogle at all of the fashion, the scandals, and the reality factors of each episode this season. Are you ready for Season Two?

More than anyone, Noah Tepperberg knows how to throw a party. And, he treats his friends well. At Noah Tepperberg’s Birthday party last Thursday, hundreds of his closest friends got to join in on the fun.

When you’re Noah Tepperberg, co-owner and founder of Strategic Group, you get two birthday parties. And, since his birthday falls in the summer, that meant the first one would be in NYC at Marquee (of course) and the second one would be in the Hamptons at Dune (obviously). Party he did, and so did his hundreds of friends and wanna-be friends last Thursday at his hot spot Marquee. I unfortunately missed out on both parties, though I recognize several familiar faces in the crowd, all helping to wish Noah another year full of successes. Ben Kaufman was there to document the fun.
