Yesterday evening, the Black Lips rocked the large, rusty hole in the ground that is McCarren Pool which, aside from having the acoustics of a swimming pool, is an incredible venue. There are balloons and beach balls crowd-surfing at all times, and dodgeball on the side of the pool for your entertainment if the opening act isn’t playing the right notes. Upcoming events at McCarren Pool include screenings of 28 Days Later and Blue Velvet and concerts from Wilco and Aesop Rock.

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,

Ronnie Specktor was at McCarren Pool last week and Antwan was there to capture the fun.  My favorite photo of the batch was the "Where the Sidewalk Ends" tattoo in reference to that awesome Shel Silverstein book that I so adored as a child.  I am generally turned off by tattoos of any sort, but this one made me smile.
