If you have ever stepped foot inside the member’s only Soho House, there’s a very good chance you have seen Roberto Monticello. My fascination with the man began, I’m sure, not unlike many others before me. Word of mouth: “See that guy in the yellow shirt and red blazer? They call him the Mayor of Soho House," exclaimed my friend last Tuesday night. I watched as dozens of people passed by to pay their respects. Always jovial in spirits, this man appeared to know everyone in the room. At least they all knew him. When he took his throne in the chair outside of the 6th floor elevators, I made my move.
“Hello. I heard you’re the Mayor and I would like to meet you.”
“Ha. Sit my child. The mayor eh? The Mayor of what?”
“The Mayor of Soho House sir.”
(laughs) “I am the Mayor maybe, but the Mayor of Meatpacking is a better description.”
Thus started my time spent with Roberto.

Tequila enthusiasts and socialites alike found themselves in The Meatpacking District on Tuesday for cocktails sponsored by "Tres Generaciones" at RDV. After sampling the house Tequila, guests feasted on dishes by Bagatelle before letting loose on the dance floor to beats by some of New York's most influential electronic artists, including DJ's Jus-Ske, Sinatra and Sal Morale. Last night, the Young Philanthropists of the Cancer Research Institute held their 2nd Annual Midsummer Summer at Tenjune. Touted as, "The best event to meet your future spouse," the festive group not only packed the nightclub to support the cause, but also to test this theory, one seemingly unusual for the meatpacking staple. The Bowery may be the hottest street in the city, but is it too hot for its own good? We have already gotten more than one email from very "in the know" New Yorkers that insist that the LES (Lower East Side), including the Bowery and her hip hotel and bars are OVER. As in DUNZO. At least for the "cool kids" of the city that refuse to follow trends.
Oh, and don't even THINK about Chloe's becoming the new Beatrice Inn! The Horror!
