There has been a series of whale sightings at Avenue over the past few weeks, and now a tipster has sent us some photographic evidence.  No less than 40 bottles of Cristal were lit up and brought out last night.  A little quick math says that this trumps the 20k bottle bought at Marquee last December and may be edging onto the same turf as Mike Ashley, who spent $216k at Pink Elephant last September.

So just who is this serial bottle popper? You can catch a glimpse of him in the cellphone pictures. Our tipster says that Kid Rock was also there doing the usual celeb routine, hanging out with hanger-ons and their hanger-ons.  More pictures below... More»

Yesterday, while scanning the Post, we came across this little number:"Bubbly Kick" in Richard Johnson's popular "Page Six" section.  Now, don't get me wrong, I love Richy Boy as much as the next guy, but this is a perfect example of how old media is behind the curve.  We wrote about  British billionaire Mike Ashley's rocking night at Pink Elephant SIX days ago!  And that still was after the Sun Online had posted it.  Is Richard Johnson going to join his fellow Mesozoic friends in extinction soon?  Or does he have it in him to start following the blogosphere?

When British billionare Mike Ashley goes out, he goes hard. How hard? Well about 100 times harder, 100 times more expensive, and a 100 more bottles of Cristal than New Yorkers who break the bank to grab a table a Pink Elephant. And quite frankly, he looks like he's having about 100 times more fun! This past Wednesday he was ordering and passing out bottles of Cristal at PE to club-goers like it was going out of style. All the cork-popping and spraying created quite the champagne supernova, drenching the whole dance floor and creating a receipt that probably won't be topped anytime soon. And whomever the lucky waitress is, she has to be happy about the $30,000 tip.
