There are probably some of you out there who feel like it's important to spend Memorial Day weekend in silent reflection over the sacrifices made in the name of American freedom. And we very much respect that, and send our profound thanks to those who serve our country. We also think that the best way to celebrate freedom, once you've given your thanks, is to go out and have a completely awesome time. Luckily for you, there's a bounty of pool parties, music festivals, BBQ's, yacht parties, rooftop ragers, and more this long weekend, right here in L.A.– check it all out in our 2012 Memorial Day Weekend Party Guide! Even for those who may not have done any shopping, last week's Fashion's Night Out gave everyone a reason to come out and party. [Erwin Redl installation via] We are now heading toward the middle of August, which means art world vacation is almost over, but not quite. However, if you are like me, you are getting restless of lack of new things to see/do/absorb. Luckily I scoured the town and came up with some good stuff for you this week. See ya around town. More»

There are a lot of different ways to react when someone tries to take your picture in the middle of a party. You can do the sucked-in cheek "kissy face" that girls often do, which has never made anyone look sexy in the history of photography, but maybe you'll be the first! You could flip off the camera, which is cool and original and rebellious, except no. And then there's the inexplicably popular "Surprise Party" look, where you respond with outright shock that someone would dare to take your picture. Of course, within that look, there are a multitude of sub-looks, as these Cobra Snake photos from Absolut Swim at the Mondrian demonstrate.  [photos by Steven Meiers via]

Since last week, events in honor of L.A. Fashion Week 2010 have been popping up all over town. It's a simple fact that events celebrating an art, whether a film festival, award show, music fest or fashion week, are just as much if not more so about the after parties. And as Geoffrey Mac's L.A. Fashion Week post-collection preview party at Bardot demonstrated, the fashion peoples know how to party.  See how the designers' L.A. fans friends kept it fierce while getting down after his fashion soirée.
