Each town has those bars. You know what ones I am talking about, the bars that you don't start at, but end at. The bars that you know upon entering, that it is not only about to go downhill, but you are already half way down the slope. Long before any Hampsters were roaming the streets, Montauk had their very own Bermuda triangle. The Point, The Memory and Oyster Pond were the three bars that when attended, you most definitely knew you were waking up without full recollection, and probably any personal belongings. My experience with the Triangle came some years after Oyster Pond had left. My triangle was Nick's, The Point and Memory, but with Sloppy Tuna taking over Nick's things have managed to get even crazier. Let my faults to be your gain. Follow these simple steps the next time you end up at your Bermuda Triangle to make your morning recovery a little less of a hassle.
Beware jet setters, your oh so glamorous lifestyle is no longer in style, and you can blame the accessibility of your vacations spots for that. It is now far more acceptable, if not encouraged, to hop from one ridiculously hard to reach place to the next. There's one requirement, these unheard of paradises, deserts and beaches must be void of the corporate stamp that comes along with chain stores and massive resort hotels. Cue the creation of a term to describe this subculture that has evolved from the jet set lifestyle: gypset. That’s right, take that jet set mentality, mix in the carefree mindset of a gypsy and you are ready to explore the world. Gypsetters can be caught escaping to unknown and undiscovered towns such as San Pedro, Spain and Troncones, Mexico.
Julia Chaplin, the very gypsetter that is responsible for coining the term, has had the privilege and freedom to explore the farthest corners of the Earth through writing for publications such as the New York Times, Vogue and Elle. After reading Julia’s book, Gypset Style, I had to get some more information from her regarding the gypsetters, her travels, and this subculture that is quietly emerging under the radar. More»
Hipsters that invade the East end are now known as the Hampsters. No, no, not hamsters - Hampsters. With a "P." Get it? And I am going to take it a step further and argue that a true Hampster actually resides in Montauk. Sure, they may branch out for the occasional meal or event passed Amagansett, but to be considered a true Hampster as opposed to hipster, you are spending a majority of your time in Montauk, not giving a sh*t.
via hamptons.guestofaguest: Tim Ojeda stumbled into the surfboard business when his own board garnered attention. He never planned to teach himself how to screen print shirts, but he did, thus launching a new business. We got a chance to talk o him about his Montauk store Drug Money Art, photography, and his upcoming marriage. MORE>>>
Tin Ojeda never planned for any of this to happen. He never planned to make an entire business out of "Drug Money," but when his infamous surfboard attracted so much attention, it kind of just happened. He never planned on spray painting surfboards, but when his friend asked him to spray paint all of the soft tops used for surf lessons, he did. He never expected his spray paint-splattered shirts to become so popular, but with people approaching him to make more and the inspiration from his girlfriend, he did. He never planned to teach himself how to screen print shirts, but when his demand grew too high and he couldn't spend a whole day on just one shirt, he taught himself. More»

Julia Chaplin is the author and journalist behind "Gypset Style," a book and style guide of people living a bohemian "gypset" lifestyle across the globe. Over the weekend, the author debuted her first collection "Galatic Weekender" at the Cynthia Rowley shop in Montauk. Her line of amazing dresses and sarongs captures the vibe of her travels. The colorful, fun and funky patterns and prints are the perfect mix between summer time fun and classic elegance.

On Friday, local legend Nancy Atlas strummed her guitar with her band at Navy Beach in Montauk. The sun was shining, the weather was hot, but the view was killer and the music was pure summer -- evoking that sensation of relaxed mellow-ness that everyone loves about Montauk.
