“The Last $2k I Ever Spent!”

Party\'s Over

How do you say “Party’s Over” in financial speak?

There will be no more ego-driven tab write ups for the Lehman boys this fall or most people in finance for that matter.  Now, I’m not saying that blowing $2k on a table at a place such as Pink Elephant is the WORST idea out there, however, now it won’t even be a possible option for several of the regulars.  Our hearts go out to them….at least their 401k’s were intact this summer, so they could get a  couple of weekends of models and bottles in clubland (I’ve included some of my favorite documentary photos below). I hope these memories will carry them through the recession.

Happy 4th Of July From Miami

Thankfully, the party goers from Miami decided to stay south this year.  Things looked sizzling hot at the 4th of July Pool Party at the Surfcomber.

Like it or not, these are our fellow Americans and they were ready to celebrate our Independence Day in style.

“Upstairs” Could Be In A Lot Of Hot Water

broken wine glass, broken champagne glassA tipster writes:

There was an incident tonight in which a gay guy was hit in the face with a glass by a transvestite who had “issues” with him. Resulted in blood everywhere inside and even some tissue coming out from his head, police on scene, victim taken to local hospital etc. Upstairs may be closed pending investigation into the incident.

Certainly not a pleasant way to celebrate the 4th of July weekend, and good reason why night spots should be using plastic instead of glass. Anyway, we’ll be working to get more details on whether or not Upstairs will closed or not, and we hope for a speedy recovery for the person who was hurt.

Tips For Getting Past That Door(wo)man

Line Outside Pink Elephant
[Line outside Pink Elephant, Capri last Saturday. Photo by Rob Rich]

This is from the hamptons site in relation to the clubs out there, however is relevant to the city’s clubland and clubs across the globe in general:

Here’s an oldie but a goodie…last year we posted on the importance of getting to know your door(wo)man for entry into those hot clubs you kids are dying to let loose in. While the names of some of these places and door guards have changed, the locations are still the same, and the concepts will stand up the test of time for years to come:

1. Don’t name drop the name Rachel Uchitel to Rachel Uchitel at the door of Dune: Her favorite line is “Rachel told me to come by.” “Dude,” she says, “I’m Rachel, and that’s the most idiotic thing you can say.” This season: Just substitute Rich Thomas in for Rachel. We have even heard that line dropped outside Dune two weekends ago.

From: hamptons.guestofaguest.com:

Today’s “Best $2k I ever spent!” pick is from our sister site. Anyone that makes the effort to drive over two hours so they can party in places with such titles as “The Capri” deserve to get their moneys’ worth. At that’s just what the kids were doing at Pink Elephant’s Southampton outpost this last Saturday.

The Fifty Dollar Experiment

After rent, tons of bills, and a wedding on location at the DC Mandarin Oriental last weekend, I took what was left of my Economic Stimulus Package and vowed to get through a week on 50 bucks. New York is supposedly one of the most expensive towns on the planet, but I figured I could employ my wits and some of that Naija charm to get by. In the process, I learned a few things, and realized that this city has a real shot at being one of the cheapest places to live — if you’re willing to work for it.

So here’s my playbook:
