It's getting to be that time of year again where we get dressed up to drink and shmooze around our favorite enormous David Hockney-painted pool at least once a week for the next four months. Of course I'm talking about party season at the Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar which covergirls Juno Temple and Britt Robertson helped kick off last night at the annual NYLON May Young Hollywood Issue celebration. As every website publishes their "Year In Review" posts, it's going to really seem like 2011 sucked. And between natural disasters and Republican Primary season (which technically hasn't even started yet), I can understand feeling that way. But it wasn't all bad, people. In fact, 2011 in Los Angeles was packed full of killer parties, crazy shows, and a never-ending stream of bizarre fashion that we faithfully captured for you every morning. More»
via la.guestofaguest.com: Like high school, every party has its archetypes. The jock. The nerd. The hot chick. But that's a pretty boring way to look at the world, don't you think? Like high school, every party has its archetypes. The jock. The nerd. The hot chick. But that's a pretty boring way to look at the world, don't you think? And outdated given that L.A. routinely throws parties weird and fun enough to give rise to all sorts of new, more complicated characters. And it must be said that some weeks, Nightswim has enough of these characters to basically write a coffee table book. More»

This morning, a shrewd mother duck who obviously follows the news taught her adorable ducklings what summer in Los Angeles is all about: pool parties. She took the liberty of hosting her own and led her young in a casual dip in a backyard swimming pool. Even she knows today is the official first day of our favorite season and got a head-start on the pool action. More»
With his new show "Proving Ground" premiering just last week on G4 and his appearance at Nightswim a couple of weeks ago, it's hard to believe we've lost Ryan Dunn. The "Jackass" star was tragically killed early this morning in a car wreck in West Goshen Township outside Philadelphia. He was 34. More»
Despite being the go-to symbol of masculinity and virility since, oh I don't know, the dawn of time, it wouldn't be off base to say that not everyone in today's cheekbone-obsessed culture gives the beard its due. This is a crying shame because, as Nightswim proved, a beard is versatile, practical, mysterious and seductive, all at once. You'll see. More»

Nightswim was back for it's third week as the place to be Tuesday nights all summer long. Tropicana was more packed than we've seen in as the Nightswim team kept the good vibes going with summer tunes and a special guest DJ set by OK Go's Tim Nordwind. Take a look inside what went down this week. Go on, jump in. More»
Last week was a pretty big one. Spring officially turned into summer, and it seems like everyone from our usual motley crew of pool partiers to the largest man (formerly) in the NBA had a statement to make. And this being a superficial town and all, they made their statements the old fashioned way: with fashion.
So let's look back at some of the most outrageous outfits from last week, before we turn the page on them forever. More»

If you take away one thing from reading our party and fashion write-ups, it's probably this simple core message: fashion is hard. If more people were naturally able to effortlessly look and dress in a way that made them attractive, comfortable and popular, the world would be a very different place. And Christian Audigier would be homeless instead of yachting on the S.S. DateRape with Jon Gosselin. That's why our hippest young pioneers use intimate gatherings like Nightswim to debut and fine-tune their new looks, before they are considered "runway-ready." More»

You know that collective energy the first day back to school always had after summer break, where everyone's really happy to see each other (or at least doing an awesome job pretending) and eager to meet new faces? That was the general vibe last night at the first Nightswim of the year despite most having last seen one another within days at Hemingway's/Paul & Andre/Trousdale/some hipster shit. More»
