Fernando Brízio has translated his Painting with Giotto series (#3 shown above) into wearable art for Italy’s Flexibility: Design in a fast-changing society event, which kicked off this weekend.
“The topic of the exhibition – flexibility – gave me the chance to find again one of these ideas that were still unsolved. This enabled me to create open objects that, like a programme, can be modified, erased and restarted multiple times.”- Fernando Brízio

Tomorrow, Celebrate Brooklyn is hosting the Cold War Kids at the Prospect Park Bandshell. It should be great. Who thought Southern Gothic narratives plus soul, plus post-punk would make such a good combination? Anyway, it starts at 7 pm, and there’s a $3 suggested donation at the gate.
Let me begin by saying that, August: Osage County is hands down my favorite play I have ever seen. It resembles a contemporary “A Long Day’s Journey Into the Night,” but with much more humor and excitement. (Off the record, I found “A Long Day’s Journey Into the Night” boring and tedious). Although the play runs three hours (which is why I had my reservations), I was intrigued from beginning to end, and almost wish it lasted longer. The humor was witty with crass and the acting was impeccable from every single actor.
Guests last night at Milk Gallery’s exhibit “Rebel Rebel” presented by the Art of Elysium were greeted by a gigantic blow up of Lou Reed doused in bubblegum pink paint and covered in sparkles. Iconic rock photographer Mick Rock has paired up with artist Russel Young, who reinterpreted his legendary images as life sized silk screened versions in vivid neon hues, often presenting multiple reproductions side by side in Warholian fashion.
Last night was the opening reception Paula Parrish’s collection of photographs at The Chelsea Market. Guests were flowing throughout the Chelsea Market, with free Stella Artois in hand, admiring Parrish’s beautiful and sometimes eerie work. Parrish’s photographs will be displayed at The Chelsea Market through September 15th. Be sure to grab a bite and enjoy the photographs that are displayed throughout the whole market!
Well, kind of. “The Sweatshop” is an old, well… ’sweatshop’ located on the 6th floor of 138 Mulberry st. in Little Italy. So why was it packed full of eccentric art-loving youngsters? Because it has recently been converted into a gorgeous yet rustic gallery space!
