The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be lit up this Wednesday night. The tree lighting is one of those things, like ethnic parades and a Times Square New Year's Eve, that New Yorkers love to sneer at. But admit it: December in the city would be a little less jolly without it. More»

[14th Street Christmas Tree Operation]

Yes it's true, real live Christmas trees really DO exist in Manhattan.  In fact, they are on practically every street corner, at least they were last year.  I headed to the Christmas Tree Operation on East 14th Street on Monday to pick out a 7ft tall evergreen.  The guys are located right outside of Papaya Dog (1st Avenue and 14th st) and have one of the best selections.  I know because I drove around looking 30 minutes prior.  Sadly, the Tompkins Park guys were MIA.  Does the state of our economy spell doom for several Christmas Tree vendors?  Stay tuned for pictures after my "Tree Trimming Party" for the finished product.
