While Chinatown has expanded, and Little Italy shrunk, tonight at least, you can get a taste of the old-school vibe at the launch of DON. Clothing, happening at Southside.  Founder and creator PJ Monte took his family history and their lifestyle and translated it into a brand that bridges the gap between the classic wise-guy and the new hip styles. Last night at 158 Mercer Street, a fashionable crowd gathered to celebrate Vera Wang’s new (finally finished!) SoHo store. Her new store focuses on more affordable and ready to wear pieces rather than Wang’s amazing wedding gowns. The store has two levels with lots of light, white walls, and modern fixtures. The Vogue queen Anna Wintour was present as well as Amy Astley, Aby Rosen, Tory Burch, Gigi Mortimer, Hal Rubenstein, Tom Florio and more. Guests were able to view Vera Wang’s beautiful clothing and were treated to music by Paul Sevigny.

Yesterday a celebration for the Men of Style was held at the main NY Louis Vuitton store. As Mel DeBarge took care of the music, guests mingled around stacks of Louis Vuitton books and issues of GQ, while model-handsome waiters served simple crisp drinks from artistically set-up trays. Among the attendees was our favorite Gossip guy Ed Westwick along  with people like Amy Erbesfeld, Peter Hunsinger, Dan Abrams, Eric Mabius, Richie Rich, Daniel Lalonde and Eric Ripert, most of whom donned Louis, of course!

Bad style was checked at the door on Monday as the who’s who of the fashion obsessed were on deck for The Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue Fashion Fund’s fifth anniversary celebration dinner gala at New York’s Skylight Studios. Designer-studded celebrities aside, Alexander Wang was the real star being recognized for his outstanding excellence in design and contribution to American fashion and awarded the fifth CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund recipient joining past winners Rogan and Proenza Schouler. With a panel of judges including Anna Wintour, CFDA’s president Diane von Furstenberg, Gap’s Patrick Robinson, and Barneys New York’s Julie Gilhart, Wang’s win surely goes above and beyond any other fashion nod.

[Narciso Rodriguez signs Yaniv Schulman personally. Photos by BILLY FARRELL for PMc]

The accomplished and beloved designer, Narciso Rodriguez, decided to share his creative process in the form of a book named (aptly) after himself. Filled with sketches and personal snapshots, the release of the inspirational book coincides with the tenth year anniversary of Rodriguez’s clothing line. A celebration was held on Thursday at Bergdorf Goodman’s , where Narciso signed books (and some flesh) for his supportive followers. This included Jessica Alba, Hal Rubenstein, Jamie KIng, Julianna Margulies, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, Dani Stahl, and Narciso’s lovely parents!

fall-fashion-week-sesame-street-112x150Perhaps it is The Sartorialist, with its street looks snapped at such locations such as Rue Du Mont Thabor in Paris following a Lanvin show, or maybe its the hint of autumn felt in the air.  Regardless, you are akin and your eyes are twitching at the sight of the new Gucci handbag collection displayed at Bergdorf’s. Your wardrobe is far from bare yet, in a moment of glee, you are ready to surrender to the inner pledge you have made and purchase the red sole shoes or just an oversized scarf in which you can bundle yourself in.

The “e” word so conspicuously mentioned these days must not be your barrier unless it is Erin Fetherston or etiquette that you are referring to. No more anticipating or pinching your pennies! Join Galliano, Cavalli, and Gianfranco Ferre along with other designers, their clothes at least, this Friday, October 17th for a special sale to conclude summer and wholeheartedly welcome fall!
