[George Fertitta, chefs. Photos by Sarah St. Lifer] The Shops at Columbus Circle were packed to capacity on Thursday afternoon as NYC and Company celebrated NYC Restaurant Week with the Coca-Cola Great Tastes of Summer event. Guests sampled food from Restaurant Week participants DB Bistro Moderne, Spice Market, Bice Ristorante, Porter House, and Tribeca Grill, while enjoying a live performance from the cast of Hair, who reminded us that, no matter how hard we try to move on, it will always be the Age of Aquarius. I had the pleasure of speaking with Daniel Boulud, restaurateur, TV host, and man about town, whose latest New York restaurant, DBGB, opened to rave reviews last month. More »

On Monday, international humanitarian organization Action Against Hunger teamed up with over thirty top NYC eateries to host its annual Restaurants Against Hunger benefit. Held at Touch NYC, guests nibbled on guacamole and chips, swigged some cocktails, and listened to a performance by indie artist Clara Lofaro. For the true foodies in the crowd, the opportunity to mingle with acclaimed chef Jacques Pepin outweighed all the other goodies. More »

The holidays are very over but that’s not a reason to stop eating good food. Wednesday night, a private, invite-only party was held to celebrate the opening of Seasonal Restaurant & Weinbar (located at 132 West 58th Street). The two owners, Wolfgang Ban and Eduard Frauneder are also the executive chefs. They had previously started the Elderberry Catering company before opening the Austrian-German restaurant that has an emphasis on fresh quality. The party was complete with tastes of their restaurant’s dishes and wine.

Last night, while Rachelle was twirling around the Whitney Gala, I had the pleasure of getting an early look at the new Aspen Social Club in soft open mode, ahead of the full service starting on Tuesday. Fans of the downtown Aspen will find a lot of familiar elements (décor, menu, even some staff have transferred uptown) with some new, and those who haven’t made it downtown will be well-advised to check it out.

This relic of a kebab house has the best doner I’ve had in a while, and it is a treat to take it to the copper tables in the back, from where you can see the cooks slicing up onions and tomatoes for the next round. It took me a minute to notice Colin Farrell and Bill Cosby on the wall next to me, as they seemed so down to earth enjoying their meal and agreeing to a photo.

It’s officially summer, and if you don’t like Pinkberry, someone somewhere is going to tell you that you’re crazy. They’ll go on about the freshness and toppings, and “Oh, did you try the green tea? That’s why, you have to have the green tea.” It’s not that Pinkberry’s terrible, it’s satisfying which is really all you can ask for with a frozen yogurt place, but they invaded Manhattan and California like Starbucks invaded Seattle (and the world).
