Ladies Of A Feather Flock Together For Audubon Society Luncheon Honoring Women In Conservation
[Pamela Taylor, Nicole Miller. All photos by AMBER DE VOS for PMc] The old colloquialism, “Birds of a feather flock together”, rang especially true at the 6th annual Audubon Society’s Women in Conservation Luncheon held yesterday at the Plaza Hotel. Women have played an integral part of the bird-loving society since its days of inception when protests were held by ladies opposing the slaughter of birds for plumed hates which must have all the rage back in the early 20th century. This morning curbed wrote about the recent lawsuit Andre Vavilov filed against El-Ad, owners of the Plaza for among other things “lower than represented ceiling heights,” and “unappealing drainage grates” in the two penthouses he was set to buy for $53.5 million dollars (unseen). Vavilov is trying to recover his $10 million dollar deposit. But what are the REAL reasons why he doesn’t want to be hanging out with Eloise in the City? A couple of possible culprits:
1. Solitary Confinement - There is no one there! (See photos above). We did a piece on this a few months back, describing how living in this spot is solitary confinement for the nouveau riche. Since Vavilov never saw the place, could he have been misled by the pretty photo shopped images on the plaza’s website?
2. The Rose Club- again, no one’s there! Well actually there are some people there if you count model
wranglers, promoters, and F-list “models” who won’t be anywhere near Bryant Park this week. But do you really want to be bumping into these folk as you go up to your penthouse. Nah, didn’t think so.

A rose is a rose is a rose. At least it seems that way for our city’s night spot’s lately. A friend of ours ventured to the newly open Rose club at the Plaza hotel. He genuinely liked the atmosphere of the place (save for the typical promoter’s table with their models), and reported that he simply “walked right in” to the space. “There was no doorman or list or anything, but maybe it was because it was a slow night.”
My bet is that this place will remain attainable. It’s no small feat getting the late night crowd to venture uptown…just ask the Koch Brothers.
