Happy Birthday Rich Thomas! One of Strategic Groups most valuable assets, Rich had a big birthday celebration in the private room at Marquee. His beautiful wife Tamie was there of course, to help toast Rich. Keep your eye on Mr. Thomas in ‘09…there are some exciting things in store and we will be there every step of the way.
Rich Thomas (of Strategic) and Tamie Peter Thomas (of Tamie Peters PR) are very good at their jobs (their latest, last night’s T Mobile G1 Party was a smashing success). True team players, these two are not only some of the most helpful PR executives and managers in the city, they are also the best cheerleaders to each other. It’s completely adorable how in love these two are, and it comes out in every job they take on. Besides being at the top of their game in their field right now, they are actually PLEASANT to be around, some of the nicest people in the industry, and have killer taste. Don’t believe me? Check out the photogenic couple below:

Sure this video is a few months old, but it includes our favorites like Rich Thomas and Jeff Goldstein, oh and that line from Dune/Marquee’s door guy Wass Stevens about not trying to get in because we probably won’t? Priceless.

Line to get inside Pink Elephant, Southampton, Saturday night:
And the winlner for this weekend’s best night spot in the Hamptons goes to Pink Elephant. Even without the redesign new fish hanging from the celing (the work of designer Steve Lewis), without the celebrity girlfriends hanging off of the owner’s arms (Heather Graham has been dating Charles Ferri the co-owner of Star Room since last summer), and without the famous gatekeepers like Rich Thomas at the door, Pink manages to win our vote for best spot and here’s why:
The crowd was the hottest, the music made us want to boogie, and the infamous “scent machine” was in full effect:
Mark Birnbaum, Richie Akiva (owner of Butter), Eugene Remm (owner of TenJune along with Mark).
There was quite a stink coming off of the Montauk Highway and it wasn’t from this guy:

In order to give you a well rounded report of the Hamptons summer night life, we briefly checked out Star Room’s party on Saturday night (The former roost of Lizzie Grubman). At Star Room, no level of inebriation was allowing us to enjoy ourselves. There were anything but “Stars” in the Room. We’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:

Let’s be honest here, we all have found the Hampton Jitney to be an invaluable resource at one time or another (i.e. you don’t have a car, don’t want to take the commuter rail, etc.). But it stops there. It wasn’t started with the intention of transporting cheeseballs with their toothbrush and cosmetics kit out to Star Room and back in the same evening/morning. Enough of these Paris Hilton wannabe make out out sessions.

Thought we would share this with you guys, an accurate summation of events this weekend. Bold added for emphasis.

Subject: Memorial Day WeekendFriday night went to Dune in Southampton, it was packed but crowd was weak. Sat night we went to Pink Elephant, it wasn’t too crowded and was really fun…lots of girls around…Usual promoters and Euro trash rich guys around….There are 5 tables outside on the elevated patio (not the outdoor area with the beds) that were really good and we stayed out there most of the night….
Sun night went to back to Dune and it was embarrasingly bad. Jayma[Cardosa] wasn’t there (only Rich Thomas). Didn’t see Noah Tepperberg either. All the tables were empty or filled with long island meathead trash….That being said Sunday after Mem Day is a tough one….Decor looks the same as last year with some cheap looking plastic fish hanging from the ceiling. I wasn’t impressed, thought Cain last year looked a lot better. They were serving drinks in plastic cups which also annoyed me. We left after 5 mintes and went to Nello’s which was very cool on the inside. An older crowd but a great place for drinks.
Didn’t get a chance to check out Stereo but Ambrosia and Adriana Lima were supposedly having a party there Sat….
Yup…it’s only Wednesday kids, and besides the record setting real estate dealings in Hamptons news today, there is not much going on to help make time go any faster. We still have two more days until our summer officially kicks into gear. In the meantime, we will be reminiscing about summers spent laying on sandy beaches, loster bisque, drinking rosé on yachts in shelter island, and discussing our favorite patterns from Vilebrequin. In addition, we can not bring up “hamptons memories” without mention of the countless nights early mornings spent in the garden of the Old Tavern, the best scene the Hamptons has seen in years. That is why, on this cheery Wednesday afternoon in the city, a rush of excitement came in the form of an invite.
While we’ve know about the 10th annual Hamptons Magazine Summer Kick-Off going on tonight in Manhattan at The Summer Pavillion on 27th, we hadn’t paid enough attention to the “launch committee” until today. The usual “players” are on it (Jayma Cardos, Eugene Remm, Rich Thomas, Dave Sherman, Remi Laba, Randy Scott, etc.) Those who, come Friday will switch from being comrades working together in an effort to kick off the summer Hamptons theme, to rivals vying for your vote in their competing night life arenas. But, low and behold, right on that list of the Hamptons Launch Committee were the two names we’ve been dying to see: Erikk and Gordon Von Broock. They brought us our Old Tavern back in the summers of yore, and seeing them on our humble little invitation means that maybe there IS some hope.
Will they be able to transform our nights back to the ones in which we come away with stories to brag about and memories that will carry us on through our later years? Is the new stereo crew capable of filling such big shoes? Only time will tell. Until then, we will have our memories, and our new Vilebrequins waiting.
