The bottom of this recent $54 dollar bar receipt from 1 oak says “A 20% service charge has been added for Bottle Service Thank You”. Shady indeed. And perplexing of course, because no bottles were purchased. And because there is no itemization on the receipt, it is impossible to tell if 20% was snuck in there or not. Shady element number 2. Certainly a ponderous situation, and one that may give you pause to think next time you open up a tab.
On Friday night, like clockwork, Ronnie Madra was at his typical promoter/owner table at 1oak. Music was same. Crowd was more or less the same. But headwear changed when he brought out some 1oak fitted baseball hats that he started tossing around to some of the spot’s regulars. Though we don’t claim to be a “regular”, we did manage to get our hands on a hat and snap a few pics for you guys. Maybe we should put this up on ebay and see what kind of premium it gets? This reminds me of when Noah Tepperberg of Marquee made Marquee sweatshirts and handed them out around the Delano in Miami several years ago to his pals including 1oak partner Richie Akiva (oh yea, maybe that’s how the 1oak guys got the idea?!).
Update: The model in this picture is Tamiris Freitas who has never dated Ronnie Madra’s. Anyway, we like the picture and apologize for the mix-up!

There are a couple rules in life to live by which include, among other things, never getting a tattoo of a significant other on your body. And now there’s another one to add to the list - never make your significant other a fixture of your nightclub’s design. For those of you who have entered past the threshold of 1oak, you’ve probably at some point or another gazed at the picture on the wall with a woman and two bulls. Artistic, a bit bizarre, and of course makes you wonder “who is that?” Well she is none other than the partner and fiance of 1oak partner Ronnie Madra, Alhia. Or was.

Its splitsville for 1oak impresario Ronnie Madra and his hoola-hoop twirling fiancee.
Ronnie Madra and Richie Akiva know when something is “one of a kind” when they see it, or so they say. They even created a night club and a clever little acronym, 1oak, to remind us of their impeccable taste….which is why its ironic that they couldn’t be further from Manhattan right now.

Instead they have opted to ring in the new year in St. Barth’s, at Pink Elephant’s party being held at La Plage. With all of the snags and mishaps that have plauged the development of their spot, one would think these guys would be at the helm, working day and night and actually BE THERE.
But alas the allure of 1oak must not be that alluring…does this mean they should rename it 2oak, “2 of a kind,” or maybe 3 or 4 or 5?
