Last night, the fashion event of the year, otherwise known as the annual Costume Institute Gala, had everything from a live performance by Bruno Mars at Metropolitan Museum of Art's Temple of Dendur, to a bevy of fashionable hosts such as Carey Mulligan, Anna Wintour, and Miuccia Prada, to a new exhibition titled "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," and, of course, a guest list filled to the brim with fashion industry notables, models, and celebrities. Last night, the much anticipated blockbuster The Hunger Games premiered downtown at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre. Adapted from a series of young adult books that I really couldn't tell you the first thing about with a gun to my head, this is apparently a very big deal as the red carpet premiere drew fans who'd camped outside the theater for days. Although I'll probably die having never seen this movie or caring that it existed, the red carpet looks at last night's premiere do matter to me, especially since there were more than a few surprisingly stellar fashion moments (hi, Miley Cyrus) that occurred. There were also a few unfortunate flops, but that's to be expected. So without further ado, here are the highs and lows in red carpet looks at The Hunger Games premiere... More»

So Awards Season has finally, finally, lurched to a close, and as we dig ourselves out from under the debris of glitter, old-timey popcorn boxes (seriously, what was up with those?) and injured Cirque du Soleil acrobats, it would be easy to dismiss the whole thing as an overwrought, self-indulgent snoozer. And while that would be largely accurate, we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge that the Film Independent Spirit Awards also happened this weekend, and that between host Seth Rogen's killer monologue and the fact that everyone was drinking Irish whiskey the whole time, things were a bit more loose than your average awards show. You know how when you're a kid, you always want to sit with the grown-ups at the big table, but then when you get there you realize that the kids' table was more fun to begin with? That's kind of the deal with the Oscars after party scene, also. Sure, it's a great honor to get invited to the show and the subsequent "Governor's Ball," but there's a reason why the Academy finally scuttled the sit-down dinner element of the Ball for a more streamlined cocktail-party this year: because people kept leaving early to go to all the other parties, including the perpetually star-studded Vanity Fair gala at the Sunset Tower.
