LE BOOK, an international reference used by the creative industry (we swear it's more interesting than it sounds), was shown at the Chelsea Art Museum last night by invitation only, with attendees changing venues to continue the party. So far this year, New York City has been celebrating the punk-disco-eighties era that is Stephen Sprouse with art events and parties celebrating the designer's forever impact on the cultural style of this city. With the release of the Stephen Sprouse Book by brothers Roger and Mauricio Padilha in January, the parties continued non stop spreading across the city from Louis Vuitton stores to art galleries to concert halls and now all the way over to LaLa Land at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood.  More»

The Louis Vuitton store in Soho was packed with activity last night, as the brand celebrated the arrival of its new Grafitti & Rose Collection, which pays homage to the legendary Stephen Sprouse. Attendees were a mix of Sprouse's fans and admirers, as well as former friends and collaborators, and included Marc Jacobs, Patricia Field, Patrick McMullan, Paige Powell, Kim Hastreiter, Debbie Harry, Nina Garcia, Donna Karan, Brooke Shields, Molly Sims, and Derek Blasberg, as well as the designer's mother, Joanna Sprouse! Paul Sevigny worked the DJ booth as guests toasted to a brand-new, wonderfully inspired collection for the new year.

It's impossible to discuss 80s fashion, or its recent, explosive revival, without paying homage to the legend that is Stephen Sprouse. Sprouse pioneered many of the decade's most enduring fashion statements-such as day-glo and graffiti print-while perfecting the effortless and irresistible mix of high and low fashion for which today's downtown kids continue to strive for. A mix of pop, punk, and rock 'n roll, his clothing caught the eye of trendsetters like Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry and Marc Jacobs, with whom he collaborated on the coveted graffiti logo bag for Louis Vuitton in 2001. When he died in 2004, the fashion world lost one of its greatest innovators.
