Summer
All posts related to Summer on Guest of a Guest for Summer.
So folks, summer is close to being over. It’s raining and no it’s not humid. Sad, we know but we can’t stop nature. Speaking of nature, Mark the Cobrasnake and his hipster entourage decided to jump across the pond to England and take advantage of nature in full summertime bloom. Here’s what they did on Summer Vacation! More…

Are you guys making sure to check in with the girls out east daily? They are writing up a storm in the GofG summer house. You don’t have to have a house in the Hamptons to be their Guest. It’s summer, and time for some fun wherever you may be! Go check in with them NOW>>>
From hamptons.guestofaguest.com: The British may have heated up our little island this weekend and it’s surrounding Polo fields, but back home, things were HOT HOT HOT (even without Prince Harry around). England has been experiencing a bit of a early summer heat wave and we caught some photos of how the Brits do the “Beach” at Brighton Pier.
[Intern Claire Willett last year with Luigi Tadini]. We are craving lobster rolls and ice cream cones! Summer is just around the corner and we have a couple of spots left in our house. Who wants to intern at GofG Hamptons site this summer? You can read about all of our adventures last year and see if you think you have it in you to cruise around the Hamptons reporting on everything from Luigi Tadini’s latest party to where the best surf spots are. Plus those eater boys need new competition for their burger grill-offs. Send your emails on why you would be the perfect summer intern (resume included) to stanley@guestofaguest.com (subject: SUMMER). We will be holding day long interviews on an upcoming Saturday to pick who will be joining the GofG crew.

An Open Letter From Rachelle Hruska - Editor Guest of a Guest
Like all good things, the summer of 2008, as much as I would like it to, can not be endless and must inevitably fade. Consistent with my good-willed wishes, temperatures have been hanging out in “Indian Summer” territory, but I’m afraid that too will soon pass. This weekend, after the Oyster Bay “Oyster Fest” and the Hampton’s International Film Festival, it will finally be time say goodbye to all things summer, and all things Hamptons. So, it’s also time for us here at Guest of a Guest to officially say adios to summer, but on the way out we thought we’d share some of our fondest memories that will hopefully help us through those cold winter days until next season.
First off, the launch of the Hamptons blog was a big step for us as a company. I enlisted the help of Claire Willett, an NYU undergrad, to accompany me on my adventure out East which proved to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. Yes, at times it was hectic, running back and forth between the city and the Hamptons, (god knows I’ve logged in my time on the Jitney), but at the end of the day we created a sister blog that I am very proud of and which I believe had wonderful content. And so, without further ado, my homage to Summer ‘08:
From Quogue to Montauk, Shelter Island to East Hampton, and everywhere in between….here are some of my favorite memories from this summer (tear):

Simplify your life, all you need is a nice cotton white dress and a sweater to carry you through the weekend. Persian rugs thrown on grass are a great way to encourage story telling at dusk. Get in the ocean every chance you get, it is the BEST way to start your day, and the only thing you should be concerned about doing until at least noon. Be Silly. Don’t forget to look up at the stars, it’s not everyday you get to see the milky way. Go to events if they suit you, if they don’t, forget about it…there is no use fretting over how to spend your time on Labor Day weekend. Remember: You. have. nothing. to. do. Repeat this over and over until it gets good and set in.

Summer is barbeque season and what better way to mix up the classics than with a cuisine known for its grilling. These flavors are second nature to me, and I find that it is my most requested dish of the season. The marinade is similar to teriyaki, yet with the grated Asian pear, sesame seeds, and fresh herbs it adds another dimension. Try it on a variety of proteins such as chicken, fish, even tofu.
Look for my line of ChoSun gourmet condiments soon to be in stores near you!

Note from Editor: Summer is officially here, and, because I have a fear of winter like most kids have a fear of heights, I am pretty much an expert on Summer. I love Summer so much that I have contemplated naming my unborn daughter after it. And, if there’s one thing I know about Summer, it’s that it’s the time to drag out the weekends. Which is exactly what we are going to do… Below, Kerry Cassidy let’s us in on all things Nantucket.
Monday was memorial day, one of those holidays I’m not exactly sure what we are celebrating (I just learned cinqo de mayo does not mean tequila day), but I’m all for supporting/remembering our troups (hay hay USA). Memorial day also = everyone has off of work and has fabulous BBQs. Not only did I get to indulge in some sloppy BBQ’d food without spilling it on my white pants (that’s right ladies, Mem day is also the official day to break out those babies), but I was lucky enough to enjoy laughs with friends and family on Nantucket. Nantucket Island, besides its usual fabulosity, was celebrating the annual Figawi race, recognized as the top sailing race in the nation.

Americans everywhere are getting excited about summer. It’s a time for them to truly cut loose and show their true American Pride. Some of the more popular mannerisms that Americans are known for come out during the summer months. Things like grilling out, eating watermelon, buying fireworks, sharing ice cream cones from a truck and… flashing people their American flag bikini’s of course. We may be called tacky every now and then, but who can honestly say that they don’t appreciate cheap beer from a red plastic cup served by girls in bikinis and cutoffs every now and then?
Well we’ve passed through the gateway to summer. Memorial Day 2008 exists only in the memory of our minds, and history books. Its time to begin the summered out posts. I guess you may be expecting an Oper8tor’s guide to the Summer, but honestly, I’m still trying to figure that out, and right now my only summer plans involve writing, lots and lots of shit talking and making as many new lady summertime friends as possible. What I can impart to the GOFG readers are things to expect from the summer. Sure the heat, the humidity and the fun are obvious, but it’s the subtle quirks that make the summer everyone’s favorite season.
