What happens when you mix an open bar with hundreds of Tumble-geeks, (and a couple of Tumblettes)?  Well, it 'aint pretty.  Last Sunday, Tumblr threw a party in Austin Cedar's Bar in honor of SXSW and we are still coming off from the buzz.  With the favorable guy-to-girl ratio (about 10 to 1), we had more than enough opportunity to mingle with our favorite nerd boys like Tumblr founder David Karp, College Humor's Ricky Van Veen, Four Square founder Dennis Crowley, and Wine Library TV's Gary Vaynerchuk (who came with 40 cases of wine-reinforcements).

tipsWe accidentally left Stanley in Austin at SXSW. And, with Rex Sorgatz's pool parties, he's in no hurry to return home. We need your help in keeping us in the loop! Do you have a party that you are dying to see up on GofG? Feed it to Stanley! You can easily nourish his barrel-chested body by sending in tips. Have something Stanley should know? Share with him by emailing tips@guestofaguest.com, and give a dog a bone. Ruff!

Lessons learned at our first SXSW Conference:

  • Ratio of guys to girls: 10 to 1. If you are a single woman and have an iPhone and a pulse, you're set.
  • Nerds spend most of high school sober. Many didn't finish college. That makes for a lot of catching up.
  • Facebook steals. Get used to it people, this is the internet after all.
  • Tweets/foursquare check ins/texts/tumblrs are how 99% of the "conversations" take place here.  Surprisingly you still manage to come home feeling socially exhausted.
