Tinsley Mortimer, Lower East Side Pioneer, Is In The Doghouse
Back when we eulogized The Annex, we knew little about its fratastic replacement, Doghouse Saloon, other than the beer pong and free hot dogs on offer. (Talk about a swiney combo!) RIP The Annex
Orchard Street rock bar The Annex is dead and buried. Although the place had gone downhill, its closure still qualifies as a footnote to the ever-expanding obit of Lower East Side cool. But maybe it shouldn’t. In its heyday, The Annex threw some great parties: Ruff Club (a VERY sweaty electro bash), tiswas (an indie rock affair) and, briefly, LESS (for the techno heads). But it also had dapper doormen charging a cover to get beyond a velvet rope and into the self-consciously dumpy venue. Taylor Momsen, aka “Little J”, And Her Band “The Pretty Reckless” Rock Out At The Annex
Go HERE for more photos by RACHEL SKLAR! Last night, Taylor Momsen, aka Jenny Humphrey from “Gossip Girl” and her band “The Pretty Reckless” got reckless on stage at the Annex. And Sklar, who was front and center says “they were pretty good” Adding:
“I quite liked the speed and sound of their stuff, and Momsen can sing - she belts it out with a rough scratchy punk-rock voice that had a Courtney Love/Kim Carnes/Alannah Myles/Gwen Stefani/Hedwig feel. Plus good energy and presence, especially when you remember that she’s freaking SIXTEEN. Can’t wait for the ep when Little J opens for Rufus! Whoops, other way around”

High Voltage! At The Annex

Every Wednesday night, Resident DJs Dimity!!! and Prince Terrence host the party at The Annex on Orchard Street. High Voltage! at the Annex has become quite the scene, it even has it’s own Myspace page. A couple GofG photog’s were there this Wednesday to get the scoop.
