So Awards Season has finally, finally, lurched to a close, and as we dig ourselves out from under the debris of glitter, old-timey popcorn boxes (seriously, what was up with those?) and injured Cirque du Soleil acrobats, it would be easy to dismiss the whole thing as an overwrought, self-indulgent snoozer. And while that would be largely accurate, we'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge that the Film Independent Spirit Awards also happened this weekend, and that between host Seth Rogen's killer monologue and the fact that everyone was drinking Irish whiskey the whole time, things were a bit more loose than your average awards show. Thanks to Billy Crystal and an Academy comprised of old, humorless, white men, the Oscars was a night where the microphone feedback was far louder than the laughs. But have no fear, Twitter saved the day, boasting not only new accounts from Angelina Jolie's right leg and JLo's nipple, but a semi-offical #tweetroast by funnier comedians lambasting Tinseltown's favorite PR campaign. Here are some humorous highlights. More»

As a recent study by the Los Angeles Times revealed, Oscar voters are mostly old, white men who probably vote for movies like The Artist because they can still remember the age of silent film.  As a result, there's a disconnect between what The Academy considers a "Best Picture" and the opinion of the general public, which tends toward funnier and sexier fare (see: Ryan Gosling).  Here's a list of films that got shafted. Seeing the Scorsese drinking game develop during this year's Golden Globes awards means there's no reason a new drinking game won't start during this weekend's Oscars (Drink every time there's a close up on Brad Pitt?). Now that funny guys Zach Galifinakis and Will Ferrell are added to the list of presenters, expect a "Between the Two Ferns Dialogue" juxtaposed with Frank the Tank and have your libation ready. This party might get more wild than the after parties you're not attending, so make sure you take advantage, commercials too. Here are some fun cocktails inspired by the various Best Picture nominees. More»

Congratulations to the cast of The Help, which bagged Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Ensemble Cast last night at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the boozy step-daughter of the Academy. Since the SAG comprises 22% of the Academy Awards vote, this could also bode well for the film in scoring a few Oscars.  A complete list of winners (Betty White! Alec Baldwin! Mary Tyler Moore!), and highlights from the evening (including the Bridesmaids/Scorsese drinking game), after the jump.

The 2012 Golden Globes happened last night, and if we've learned one lesson from the whole to-do, it's a lesson we've learned before: never bet against Harvey Weinstein. Neither competition nor nature could keep Harv down last night, first as nominees associated with the Weinstein Company (The Artist, The Iron Lady) won big, and again when even the rain couldn't manage to prevent most of Hollywood from attending the Weinstein after-party at Trader Vic's.
