On Monday, we posted "The Beatrice Inn: Where Are They Now?", which proved conclusively that there isn't really a "new Beatrice Inn", despite how every new club opened by Paul Sevigny or Matt Abramcyk is heralded as such. Now, an ex Beatrice kid explains exactly why there can never be another. More»
The three co-owners of The Beatrice Inn are behind some of the biggest nightclub openings of 2010: Matt Abramcyk's The Bunker, Andre Saraiva's heavily anticipated Le Baron Chinatown, and of course Paul Sevigny's epic Don Hill's. So where are the other ex-Beatrice regulars hanging out these days? More»
New York had a rough decade. The '00s were bookended and defined by calamities in the Financial District that had global ramifications. Far less tragically, the city's cultural scene underwent significant shakeups. The Bowery Ballroom's crowd might not be as swank as the Jane's, but its gorgeous interior--including, like the Jane, a swell balcony and giant disco ball-- is. The rock-centric music institution has some of the best bookings in town. Also, you can dance inside without worrying about Footloose-style repercussions (seriously, when will NYC's ludicrous cabaret laws be overturned?) and the Jane's neighbors who actually started a blog to chronicle their complaints about the endangered venue.
