This week, NYC has been burning up with Twilight: New Moon fever. Pretty much every female has been storming the Today Show and multiple screenings of the latest vampire series installment for a glimpse of the obsession-inspiring stars. The topic on everyone’s lips: Team Taylor or Team Edward? More»

Levi Johnston was in town last night. For porn. Last night, Simon Hammerstein and Nick Denton presented the first annual Fleshbot Awards, recognizing sexiness in pop culture. Honorees included Bristol Palin baby daddy Levi Johnston, who (shyly?) refused to pose with his phallic prize piece. He did, however, welcome photo ops with fellow guest Tinsley Mortimer. Also enjoying the naughty evening at The Box was Patricia Fields, a bunch of porn stars and the venue’s typical out-in-the-open bedroom behavior. We’d say not safe for work, but at this point you’ve probably already looked over your shoulder… More»
[All photos by JIMI CELESTE for PMc]. Is it nice to look at pictures of Cameron Diaz and James Marsden early in the morning, because they are aesthetically pleasing? Or is it depressing, because at this hour of the morning, you don’t need a reminder of beautiful and unattainable they are? Either way, the two painfully gorgeous stars were in Union Square last night for the premiere of their new movie, The Box. More»
Sometimes it seems like you can divide downtown bars into two categories: those that thrive on celebrities and those that shun them. The trendy spots are pretty obvious, although in constant flux. The Box, Beatrice Inn and Jane Ballroom are all recent Page 6 magnets. But what happens when the Botox-and-Restylane set leaves its comfort zone and mingles with the proles? More»
Noise complaints. Smoking violations. Drug raids. Illegal dancing. As soon as a New York nightclub generates buzz these days, the fuzz isn’t far behind. So if your night out at one of the below hotspots is interrupted by the cops, cantankerous neighbors or the Department of Health, it’s good to have a Plan B in mind with some like-minded alternatives:
If you like the Jane Ballroom, you’ll love the Bowery Ballroom:
The Bowery Ballroom’s crowd might not be as swank as the Jane’s, but its gorgeous interior–including, like the Jane, a swell balcony and giant disco ball– is. The rock-centric music institution has some of the best bookings in town. Also, you can dance inside without worrying about Footloose-style repercussions (seriously, when will NYC’s ludicrous cabaret laws be overturned?) and the Jane’s neighbors who actually started a blog to chronicle their complaints about the endangered venue.
What do you get when you mix the crazy acts from the Box with a mega tri-level interactive theatre in the heart of times square? Definitely not heaven, but maybe not as bad as hell (?)…no, you get “Purgatorio” care of Simon Hammerstein and company. Technically, it’s a haunted house from the same minds that brought you the acts at the box. And, “If 30 percent of the people are so frightened they run out on opening night, I’ll consider it a smashing success.” -says Hammerstein. Read more below… More»

While the rest of New York lined up around the block for their turn inside the Topshop flagship store which had it’s official opening in Soho yesterday; VIPs like Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Theodora Richards, Zach Braff, The MisShapes, and Emma Roberts turned out in celebration for the (third) opening party at the Box last night Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green were on hand, as well as fellow Brits James Blunt and Hamish Bowles.

“It’s like walking out of my worst nightmare that has come real.”
This was how my friend from home (Nebraska) described walking out of the Box when I took her there over a year ago. It had already passed over from a fun PG-13 Moulin Rouge-like establishment into the raunchiness we all know today.
There is a shockingly accusatory expose on the little nightclub that could: The Box, in this week’s NY Mag by Alex French, and I admittedly couldn’t put it down last night. Besides getting into full descriptions of many of the acts (even reading them is hard for me), Alex uncovers loads of he said/she said type scandals that seem very detrimental to Hammerstein’s reputation. The last time I went to the Box was months ago. I had to cover my eyes for most of the show. More»

On Tuesday night, the Box hosted “The Most Interesting Show in the World“, a touring variety show sponsored by Dos Equis. Guests enjoyed a raft of performers from around the world, including aerial performers, Japanese robotic dancers, acrobats, breakdancers, fire jugglers, Russian dancers and French burlesque singers, all of it overseen by Jim Rose, famed emcee of the “The Jim Rose Circus” sideshow. The crowd went wild for performances from Johnny Fayva, Melody Sweet, Kenichi, Lilia Stepanova, Mark Faje, The Rock’n'Roll Strip Show, and others.
